Goldberg is a legendary name for the WWE Universe but his origin belongs to the WCW before it was taken over by Vince McMahon. On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of his first TV appearance that occurred on WCW TV, WWE will now be throwing a celebration. There won’t likely be any happening on TV but rather on social media, as it appears.

As per the confirmations received from the WWE, they will be honoring the wrestling legend as he rings in 25 years after bursting onto the professional wrestling business. Goldberg’s infamous debut took place on WCW Nitro back on September 22, 1997.

The former NFL star from Tulsa, Oklahoma featured in only a few dark matches prior to his TV debut happened. His final match before debuting on WCW Nitro was in a non-televised taping to Chad Fortune at a WCW Saturday Night taping in July of that year.

During his debut, Goldberg was a nobody as he faced Hugh Morrus in the opening match of the night. He dominated the Dungeon of Doom member to impress the passionate WCW fanbase. The historic 173-match winning streak was thus started which was unthinkable at that point. Owing to that streak, the veteran went on to become a franchise player of the previously Eric Bischoff-owned company and perhaps the most dominant player of the promotion, as well.

That being said, WWE will now be honoring Goldberg’s “silver anniversary” by paying homage to him for all the month of September. WWE will be presenting Goldberg’s “greatest moments, toughest battles, and biggest Jackhammers” across all of their social media platforms. The company is also urging the fans to use the hashtag #Goldberg25 to share their favorite memories of the WWE Hall of Famer.

After WCW was vanquished in 2001, Goldberg made his way to WWE in 2003. He had memorable feuds with the likes of The Rock, Triple H, and Brock Lesnar before departing the following year with tremendous heat upon him. It was assumed that he will never be back in a WWE ring, ever again due to the bad blood between him and Vince McMahon.

Goldberg then returned to the WWE after 12 years in 2016 and since then, he has wrestled sporadically for the company. He is a 5-time World Champion who entered the WWE Hall of Fame in 2018.
