On the post-Wrestlemania 34 edition of WWE Raw, the new was given that Paige will no more be seen competing. She was sidelined from in-ring competition for a long time due to the neck injury. So, it finally took her career away.
It turned out to be a major sad news for the fans as Paige used to be one of the most popular female superstars on the current roster. It is unfortunate to have a career finished only in an age of just 24.
However, a major surprise was in-store for us, the very next night when we received a new General Manager for Smackdown Live. Daniel Bryan is back as a full-time performer in the company and so he resigned from his authority role on the blue brand.
None other than Paige turned out to be the name who filled up his vacant shoes. The crowd was struck with awe to see the ‘anti-Diva’ back in a major role on WWE TV.
Literally, no spoiler alert was given on this, prior to Smackdown Live goes on the air and the opening segment broke out this news. So, it had to be a very quick decision taken by the backstage officials.
Bryan Alvarez of Wrestling Observer Newsletter noted on the topic saying that it was definitely a last minute decision going by the promo delivered on WWE Raw by Paige.
Check out the words from the veteran journalist,
“On Monday Paige did her retirement promo and in her promo, she pretty much said you’re not gonna see me again. Like I’m outa here. Then the next day she was the SmackDown GM. That decision was made on Tuesday. It was a very, very last minute decision.”
It is quite often that we see WWE keeps on changing their creative plans, every now and then. This is why Roman Reigns was not allowed to win the main event of Wrestlemania 34 that was so much anticipated.
Furthermore, Alvarez also revealed that making Paige the new GM was done in a hurried manner since she has to know more about the upcoming Superstar Shakeup,
“They decided on Tuesday she was gonna be the SmackDown GM. So that should tell you everything you need to know about the Superstar Shake-Up. They will be switching people on Monday and then they’ll decide who they wanna switch on Tuesday. I’m sure they’ve got some ideas about who’s going where right now. But nothing is official until they’ve been drafted one way or the other.”
@davemeltzerWON out of curiosity, and if you don’t know the answer its totally okay, who made the decision for Paige to be GM of Smackdown?

Vince McMahon https://t.co/C068lP2ORz

Also, Dave Meltzer from the same source was asked about who was behind this decision.
According to him, none but Vince McMahon took the call to make the former Divas Champion, an authority figure on the blue brand. She has to be onboard with the WWE, for now since a lot of money is invested in her.
Currently, the Total Divas filming is going on that will be airing on the next season.
Paige is back onboard after a hiatus of one year due to her huge popularity amongst the audience.
So, it’s likely that she will stick to our TV screen until her contract runs out in 2019.
