The latest WWE video game WWE 2K 22 hit the market in March this year. It is already being considered as the best WWE game under 2K. It was a massive improvement from the failure of their previous main series installment. Their last game was so bad that they had to cancel the next installment.

It took nearly 3 years for them to make WWE 2K22, and honestly it was a pretty good game. They brought back the much wanted GM mode, they also added some new modes. Overall, the game received positive reactions from the fans and it is already being believed that the next installment would even be a better game.

Why WWE Video Games Needs To Bring Back Story Modes

But one thing that is missing from the WWE games from more than a decade is a proper and meaningful story mode or a season mode. Story mode was one of the most important features of the previous games of WWE. Even the hand held versions used to have such modes.

The last game to feature a meaningful story mode was WWE 12, it featured the last Road to WrestleMania mode in WWE video games and it featured 3 back to back storylines where you get to play as Sheamus, Triple H and a created wrestler of your own. The story mode of WWE 12 is often regarded as the best storyline in WWE Video Game history.

Before this game, it was almost mandatory to have a proper story or season more in every WWE video game. WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2009 introduced a new mode called Road to WrestleMania which featured in back to back 4 games. The first game of Smackdown vs Raw, 2006 and 2007 featured a long story modes where you get to play as your desired wrestler whereas in Road to WrestleMania series, the wrestlers you get to play as are fixed.

The only game between all these games which did not have a season mode or a story mode was Smackdown vs RAW 2008. Even before the introduction of The Smackdown vs Raw series, there were excellent story modes, likes from the ones of Here Comes the Pain and Shut your Mouth. There are only a very few installment that did not feature this mode.

But WWE 12, WWE video games stopped making the season mode, in spite they came up with different stuff like WWE Attitude Era mode from WWE 13 where you get to relief the special moment of the Attitude Era, or WWE 2K14 which had the 30 years of WrestleMania mode where you get to experience some of the special moments throughout the history of WrestleMania.

Over the years this became the dominant style of WWE video games. They recycled some of the older moments and made it into video games. In WWE 2K20, they attempted to make a story line but it was so poorly received that we are unsure if we should mention it. Of course there is a career mode or the universe mode, but there are not enough storylines.

The story modes were some of the most fun modes in WWE video games history where you get to play some story lines which never aired in WWE in real life, like in WWE Smackdown vs RAW 2011, you get to play as a heel Rey Mysterio which is nearly impossible to see in real life, the guy never turned heel in real.

The story modes were one of the most fun things to do in WWE video games. We really hope WWE brings the story modes back from their next installment. There had been a lot of demands of story modes from the fans throughout the years, ready to take any type of stories, ones from the earlier version aur even the Road to WrestleMania mode. Gamers of these days deserve to rejoice the fun of story modes as well.
