WWE: What to Expect From this Week’s WWE Smackdown Live: January 9, 2018
The situation between Daniel Bryan and Shane McMahon is gradually becoming more volatile, day by day. Nobody would have expected that he will make a match for the WWE Championship match where the champion will have to defend it against two other opponents, at the same time. It is not fair, at all. But, now the match is all set for the Royal Rumble PPV on January 28th. We expect to see a massive fallout from this announcement, this week.
A match for the United States Championship tournament is also scheduled on Smackdown which will set the lineups for the semi-finale. Another tag team match is supposed to take place on the show as hinted at last week’s episode. Tonight’s episode is scheduled to take place at the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex in Birmingham, Alabama.
The focal point of the show will definitely be in the WWE Championship picture. As per the confirmations from Daniel Bryan, it is evident that AJ Styles will have to defend it against both Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn in a handicapped match. It might be the first hint by the GM that he is turning into a heel.

But, tonight, he will have to give answers to Shane McMahon explaining the exact reasons why this kind of match was announced where the odds are stacked against the champion. Meanwhile, we do know that each of the contenders will compete in the title match for himself. Hence, a rift might get started between Owens and Zayn with this upcoming match.
No women’s championship match is declared, for now on the Smackdown brand. Ruby Riott had one pinfall win against Charlotte Flair, weeks ago after arriving at the blue brand. So, she should get a championship match. We should get an update on the situation. Also, the returning Becky Lynch will continue to seek retribution against the Riott Squad.
Controversies surrounded the tag team championship match, last week. Shelton Benjamin and Chad Gable had the champions pinned to earn the titles. However, the referee reverted their decision that did not let them pick up the titles. They are complaining about it since last week, and this should get addressed by Bryan announcing a new match.

Mojo Rawley and Zack Ryder will compete in the last match in the US title tournament. There’s doubt that Mojo is the favourite one to win the contest being the young one who has the better chance to prove himself by winning the title. Also, The Bludgeon Brothers will compete in a match against The Ascension on Smackdown.
