It was in early May that Sasha Banks and Naomi walked out of the WWE and since then the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships are vacant. Soon after the unprecedented happening, WWE announced a tournament to crown new champions, but nothing has come to fruition from that announcement.
After a long wait, we finally have received an update on what’s going on with the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship but signs are still negative around it.
Fightful Select’s Sean Ross Sapp has provided updates saying that even talent backstage has no idea what will happen with the tag titles. But, most importantly, no one has heard any discussion of plans for the women’s tag division.
“Talent that we’ve spoken to said that they’ve received no word of when or if the tag team title tournament will actually happen. Even beyond that, they claim that they’ve heard no discussion regarding the tag team titles whatsoever since that announcement.”
Sasha Banks Not Possibly Returning To Ring Post-WWE Until 2023
There hasn’t been any indication on television in recent times that WWE will even bring back the Women’s Tag Team Championship since those aren’t mentioned, at all. The company then also proceeded to remove Sasha Banks and Naomi from all of their promotional things, including banning audience signs. But that certainly didn’t help them to find a new pair of champions.

WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships aren’t coming back to WWE, soon
As noted above, Banks and Naomi reportedly dropped their tag title belts on John Laurinaitis’s desk. It reportedly happened after Raw had begun as WWE continued to advertise the two women for the main event even after the tapings have begun. The walk-out by the former Women’s Tag Team Championship holders was considered to be extremely unprofessional and hence they were also suspended by the company.
Since that incident, the WWE Women’s Tag Team division itself has become empty. Natalya and Shayna Baszler were targeting those belts but then Natalya entered a singles feud with Ronda Rousey. Nikki A.S.H. and Doudrop remain WWE’s only established tag team who wrestled against the team of Asuka and Alexa Bliss, who could form a partnership, down the road.
WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships were introduced on the WWE programming in February 2019. Sasha Banks and Bayley were the inaugural champions while Banks and Naomi were the 13th champions. Banks remain the only champion who captured the belts on three separate occasions.
