After going with the only undisputed championship on the roster which is barely defended, the introduction of the WWE World Heavyweight Championship seemed much needed. Since WWE generally doesn’t really love to reintroduce old-school things in a permanent way, the expectation was that the undisputed title will be split rather than bring back a belt. However, things are running differently under Triple H’s creative leadership.

If reports are to go by then the Chief Content Officer of the WWE is the sole mind who wanted behind bringing back the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. The Game unveiled it on the April 24 episode of Monday Night with the announcement that we’ll soon be having a new world champion in the WWE whom the WWE Universe can’t wait to see.

Wrestle Votes recently spoke to GiveMeSport about WWE Draft 2023. During that conversation, it was said that Seth Rollins is the ‘leading candidate’ to carry the newly introduced WWE World Heavyweight Championship on the Raw brand,

“With the new title, I’ve heard he’s a very strong candidate to be the first guy. No doubt about it, Seth is your leading candidate.”

WWE World Heavyweight Championship could have been introduced long ago

Seth Rollins’ name to be the first WWE World Heavyweight Championship winner doesn’t come as a surprise. Being one of the top prospects to carry the top title on whichever brand Roman Reigns isn’t on always kept him on that spot but unfortunately, WWE didn’t have that secondary title belt around their roster. Only time will tell how WWE decides to crown the first winner of this belt.

Ringside News previously reported that the new WWE World Heavyweight Championship was on Triple H’s radar for a long time. This title was a long-term idea, dating back a year during Wrestlemania 38. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter dropped a new update around the belt suggesting that the was almost going to be used at WrestleMania 39 this year if not The Rock had missed the Show of Shows,

“By November, the idea was for night one of WrestleMania, with Seth Rollins and Drew McIntyre at the time tabbed for the match, or a three-way involving Cody Rhodes, if Dwayne Johnson had faced Roman Reigns at Mania. For whatever reason, that changed, but judging from the name change of the show, the decision to go back to two titles looks to have been very recent.”
