ToggleWrestlemania 39 is the biggest event of the year and WWE is marching towards it starting from the New Year through Royal Rumble 2023. The two-night extravaganza will see the biggest WWE Superstars compete under the bright lights of Hollywood. Main Event plans for both nights were already out but those have since changed.
Slated to emanate from Hollywood, the plans for Wrestlemania 39 include the return of one of the biggest stars in the professional wrestling business, The Rock. The Great One has long been speculated to battle in the main event match for the Undisputed WWE Universal title against his cousin, Roman Reigns and that plan seems to be still intact.
Wrestlemania 39: Current Champion To Face Stone Cold Steve Austin At WWE PLE?
However, the uncertainty over his involvement forced WWE to set up a backup plan involving a returning superstar. A new report by Wrestling News revealed that the current plan could see the American Nightmare Cody Rhodes challenging Roman Reigns at Wrestlemania 39 for one of the undisputed titles which in turn would set up the other main event between Seth Rollins and Drew McIntyre,
Night 1 – WWE Championship: Seth Rollins vs. Cody Rhodes OR Drew McIntyre
Night 2 – Universal Championship: Roman Reigns (c) vs. The Rock OR Cody Rhodes
The Rock’s availability to decide Wrestlemania 39 main events
Ringside News reported months ago that The Rock is a virtual lock for Wrestlemania 39 but in a follow-up, it was also informed that nothing has been finalized because WWE’s creative team was still pitching alternative plans. Hence, if WWE can’t secure The Great One then Cody will end up challenging Reigns and McIntyre will face Rollins. But if The Rock works ‘Mania, then Cody will most likely end up facing Rollins.
WWE World Titles to be split, soon
The other aspect of Wrestling News’ report states that the WWE and Universal Title will be split, down the road. Despite unifying both the WWE Championship and the Universal Championship at WrestleMania 38, Roman Reigns currently carries both titles separately. But going by the above lineups, it’s likely that the two world titles will be separated before Wrestlemania 39.
There’s no word yet on how exactly WWE plans on making Roman lose one of the Titles before the Show of Shows but it should happen in the upcoming two months. WrestleMania 39 will take place at the So-Fi Stadium on Saturday, April 1, and Sunday, April 2 and it will be interesting to see whether the undisputed title term exists until then.
