It seemed like WWE will be gathering their biggest star powers to make WrestleMania 39 a grand success and one of those attendees could be Stone Cold Steve Austin. He was previously rumored to compete in a match given that he is physically fit to feature in one. However, the latest Show of Shows should come and go without a match from the WWE Legend despite his impressive in-ring return, last year.
At WrestleMania 38 Night One, Stone Cold Steve Austin competed in his first match since March 2003 at WrestleMania 19 by defeating Kevin Owens in the main event capacity in front of his home state. It has since been reported that WWE was trying to make the veteran agree into doing another match this year where names like Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar were pitched as his potential opponents but things didn’t materialize.

The Rock won’t be wrestling at WrestleMania 39, and now it appears that Stone Cold Steve Austin is off the board, as well after he has turned down a match offer given by the WWE on this event, per The Wrestling Observer. After turning down a match against Brock Lesnar back in the summer of 2022, he was then offered an “enormous amount of money” for a match against Roman Reigns, but he didn’t agree with it, as well.
“They did talk about Austin. As far as Austin goes, Steve might be at the show. I mean I wouldn’t be surprised at all. He might do something on the show, but he did in fact turn down wrestling at the show. He was offered Brock Lesnar, he was offered Roman Reigns. Probably, he could have named his opponent if he wanted to do it with anybody else. But he did not choose to wrestle on the show.”

Stone Cold Steve Austin could be involved in a different capacity other than wrestling at WrestleMania
Despite the fact that a match isn’t happening for Stone Cold Steve Austin, it doesn’t mean that he won’t be featured at WrestleMania 39, at all. WWE loves to present top names in this kind of grand-scale event and an appearance in a surprising capacity is definitely expected. As one of the biggest drawing superstars of the WWE, it would be a wise decision to keep him around.
Since his retirement in 2003, Stone Cold Steve Austin has served as a referee at WrestleMania, officiating Brock Lesnar Vs. Goldberg (WrestleMania 20) and Jerry Lawler vs Michael Cole (WrestleMania 27). Apart from this capacity, The Texas Rattlesnake could also serve as a guest host, as we saw much like The Rock (WrestleMania 27), Hulk Hogan (WrestleMania 30), or Alexa Bliss (WrestleMania 35).
