WWE/Impact News: Alberto Del Rio to Step Down as Combate Americas President
The ongoing domestic allegation incident might be having a bigger impact on both Paige and Alberto Del Rio, lately. They have undergone a lot in these two years and there’s no stopping to the upcoming turmoil for them. The investigation around the Orlando Airport altercations has been ongoing in full swing.
Alberto El Patron became the undisputed Impact World and GFW Champion at the Slammiversary PPV. This was an indication of an abrupt push for him in the GFW promotion. But, his momentum was stopped with the controversy after GFW officials suspended him for an indefinite span of time. Plus, he was stripped of his title, as well, this past week.
In addition, Alberto Del Rio used to be the president of the MMA promotion, Combat Americas but likely to quit from it, as well. He started to play the role for the second largest MMA promotion in the United States of America from October 2016. The company hired him in order to appeal to the US fans as well as the Mexicans.
Alberto himself is a man with an MMA background meaning that the project looked quite an interesting one to him. But, apparently, he is willing more to focus on wrestling and spending quality time with Paige. This is the big reason for his eagerness to quit the MMA business, for now.
In an interview with MMAuno.com, Combate Americas CEO Campbell McLaren stated confirmed the same by stating,
“It’s a very challenging enterprise and I think it’s very, very hard to the body and difficult to do. Very physical, very athletic, so he’s kind of asked me if he can step away and with Saraya, focus on wrestling”.
Apparently, the former WWE Champion is no more capable of balancing his multiple roles of being a wrestler, an associate with MMA and then being a family-man. Plus, his growing age is also a factor at this point. The fan backlash due to the Orlando incident can be counted, as well.
Alberto Del Rio quitting the promotion could be a major blow for the company since he was quite a popular name. As for now, his wrestling career is in quite a jeopardy due to the domestic violence allegations. We have to wait for the suspension getting lifted by GFW so that he could make a return to in-ring action.
