Ronda Rousey was present at the finale of the Mae Young Classic tournament on the WWE Network. She was there to support her UFC colleague, Shayna Baszler who competed in the final match against the Japanese sensation, Kairi Sane. Despite being the favourite one and getting support from her UFC friends, she was unable to pick up the victory and win the tournament.
The focus was back on Ronda Rousey, thereby with the same question whether she intends to join the WWE shortly. For the last couple of years now, the speculations are running rampant with the MMA veteran joining the biggest pro-wrestling promotion in the world. But, till date, no deal has been finalised between the two parties.
So, Cathy Kelley wanted to pick the brains of the former bantamweight champion before the Mae Young Classic tournament in an exclusive interview for WWE.com. As we can see from the given footage, she denied giving any insider scoop about a potential WWE deal.
She refused to make any statement when asked about whether she would sign a WWE contract in the future. Rather, the UFC fighter was keen to throw some lights about Shayna Baszler competing in the final match of the WWE Network special.
Ronda Rousey is still under contract with the WWE despite not performing in the Octagon after UFC 207. She suffered two consecutive losses which have supposedly marked the end of her MMA career.
In a recent interview with ESPN, the UFC president, Dana White was asked about Ronda’s UFC career where he indicated that the ‘one-of-a-kind’ female talent is probably done with the sport. Check out his comments here, (courtesy mmamain.com)
“I think people realize she’s probably going to retire. Ronda Rousey is super competitive and doesn’t like to lose. I know she’s been criticized for that by a lot of people, but that’s just who she is and the way she is. And the way she is is what made everybody get behind her. It’s what blew up the women’s divisions.”
“Now she’s going to move on to the next chapter of her life, get married and have kids, do that thing. It’s not sad, it’s the way she wanted it.”
