After showcasing her bonafide heel side on WWE TV, Zelina Vega has become a strong babyface figure starting in early 2023. She went on to feature in a singles championship match in her career’s biggest match at Backlash 2023 in her home country of Puerto Rico. Despite massive support from the fans, WWE halted her push after the match which didn’t go well to her fanbase.

Then last week, Zelina Vega fueled up rumors and speculations on social media about her WWE tenure by posting a tweet that only contained a red X emoji. The tweet was published the morning after WWE Payback which also appeared to be within just a few hours after CM Punk’s AEW release was announced by the company president Tony Khan.

Top WWE Raw Superstar’s Contract Possibly Set To Expire In Early 2024

While speaking to Newsday’s Alfonso Castillo, Zelina Vega was happy to clarify the reason behind posting the cryptic tweet and it didn’t have to do anything with her WWE career. Rather, it was a nod to Punk as he often uses the red X symbol which “means I’m Straight Edge and Straight Edge means I’m better than you,” as Punk has said in the past.

The active WWE Smackdown Superstar stated that she was not essentially making a reference to Punk’s pro wrestling future but it would be great to see him back in the WWE fold, “I wish him the best,” she said. “Would it be great to see him again? Absolutely.”

Zelina Vega paid tribute to Rey Mysterio for his Payback win

Zelina Vega further proceeded in the conversation and claimed the red X was also a reference to her LWO stablemate, 2023 WWE Hall of Famer and United States Champion Rey Mysterio, and his son, WWE NXT North American Champion Dominik Mysterio. Indeed that tweet was posted just hours after Mysterio retained his US Title against Austin Theory at WWE Payback.

“Rey had this jacket on during our entrance, and he put a big, red ‘X’ on Dominik’s face, because his face was on the jacket,” the former WWE women’s tag team champion noted. “And that became the thing — putting a big, red, ‘X’ on Dominik’s face. So that was something we were going to run with.”

Over the past couple of years, the stock has been rising for Zelina Vega ever since she returned to the WWE in 2021 following Wrestlemania 37. While she did have to go on a hiatus again due to injury, she was able to make a valiant comeback and remain relevant on the roster. Support from social media and fans continues to outpour on her as a sign of love and respect which means a lot to her.
