As promised earlier, Roman Reigns dared to defy the authority figures of WWE Raw and made an appearance. He confronted none other than Vince McMahon who now announced a wild card rule for the WWE superstars. Per this, the superstars from WWE Raw and Smackdown could cross brands on a weekly basis. The rule started applying from this week onwards as McMahon announced two Wrestlemania rematches on the show.
Wild card rule applied for WWE stars
One of them turned out to be Roman Reigns vs. Drew McIntyre that ended in utter chaos. Reigns was in full control of the match by countering a top-rope jump with a Superman Punch. He quickly followed up with a spear but failed to get the pinfall as Shane McMahon and Elias attacked him from behind. They hammered away until The Miz made the save with a chair in hand.
The Miz chased down Shane McMahon to the back whereas Elias took advantage of the number games. He pushed Roman Reigns into a Claymore Kick from Drew McIntyre. As for Shane, he ran to the backstage area and kicked Miz into the groin to leave the building with a limo.
Prior to this, WWE always hinted that we may witness chaos on WWE Raw as Roman Reigns was intending to hijack the show belonged to him. He wished to appear on Monday Nights despite being a Smackdown Live creating obligations. WWE officials barred him from doing so with social media posts which the Big Dog was least intended to follow. So WWE.com had posted the below before the show went on air,
“WWE officials have learned of Roman Reigns’ desire to appear on this week’s Raw, but as of now, and due to his obligations as a SmackDown LIVE Superstar, he will not be appearing on Monday night’s show. Reigns proclaimed Saturday morning via Twitter that he had “some business” on Raw, and that he would return to the red brand this Monday. However, WWE responded saying that will not be the case. Reigns then fired back, saying he still intended on kicking the show off despite WWE’s response.”
Additionally, Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Newsletter noted in his latest report that we may see an invasion angle on WWE Raw. This could create interest among the WWE Universe members and thereby countering the low TV ratings of the show during NBA playoff season. So we always expected to see something major in the opening sequence of the show. Vince McMahon proved it right by announcing two Wrestlemania rematches and a wild card rule.
