In the second ODI of this series at Port of Spain, Iyer scored a crucial 71-run off 68 balls with five fours and only six. Captain Virat Kohli‘s century and Iyer’s brilliant performance helped India to manage 279/7 (50 overs). Later, India won that match by 59 runs in DLS method.

In the third ODI at Port of Spain, Iyer joined Virat Kohli when India were struggling on 92/3 in the chase of 255 runs in 35 overs. Along with the skipper, Iyer batted calmly in that pressure situation and stretched the team to the safe zone. The right-handed batsman scored 65 runs off 41 balls (three fours and five sixes). He had a game-changing 120-run partnership with Kohli for the fourth wicket. Once again, that innings helped India to comfortably win the third ODI as India won by six wickets (with 15 balls remaining) in DLS method.
