Experts Believe MS Dhoni Will Excel In The IPL 2020

Legendary wicketkeeper-batsman MS Dhoni, who had been a centre of attraction in the cricketing landscape for his shrewdness — and way of finishing the games while absorbing a lot of pressure, is believed to ‘rule the roost’ by experts in the impending edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) which will commence from September 19 in the UAE.

The 39-year-old Dhoni, who maintained calmness, has been praised by former Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Saba Karim. He further added that Dhoni has been giving his best on the field — and by deciding to move away from the international arena.

Karim stated that it will also help his body to do well in a nutshell.

“He is very fit and I believe he is working very hard on it. Plus he has stopped playing international cricket so there will be less burden on his body,” AFP quoted Karim as saying.

The star cricketer Dhoni has recently announced retirement from international cricket on August 15, which has further lessened his burden in a bid to entirely focus on IPL for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) – the franchise which has won three IPL titles so far.

The Ranchi-born veteran Dhoni had represented India for 16 years before bidding adieu to the international cricket.

Considering the views from the cricketing fraternity, many are hopeful that Dhoni will do quite well in the 13th edition of the IPL. Dhoni has the last feature in 2019 World Cup during the semi-final clash against New Zealand.

The 52-year-old Karim also stressed that world cricket needs cricketer like MS Dhoni to keep playing.

Besides, praising Dhoni for his approach donning the gloves, Karim asserted that Dhoni has been an influential figure in the cash-rich league given to his contribution apart from pyrotechnics with the bat in hand.

“Global cricket still needs an icon like MS Dhoni to continue. Also with his calm exterior behind the stumps. Dhoni played an instrumental role in kick-starting the IPL because of the way he brought a different dimension to the shorter format of the game because of his aggressive side with the willow,” Karim added.

Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra maintained that CSK depends on Dhoni, who has proved to be the ‘life and soul’ of the team. He has done wonders as a skipper and batsman to continue as a towering figure, particularly in the CSK camp.

“He is the soul of Chennai Super Kings. As long as he is there, CSK’s heart keeps beating and they move forward. MS Dhoni, the player and the captain, has a great impact. “Dhoni is going to rule the roost once again as a captain, as a batsman,” Chopra said on his YouTube channel.

Also, star commentator Harsha Bhogle has heaped praises on Dhoni while admitting the fact that Chennai is because of Dhoni and if he continues to deliver Chennai will keep on moving forward.

“Dhoni is Chennai, Chennai is Dhoni. If Dhoni is doing well. Chennai is doing well,” Cricbuzz quoted Bhogle as saying.

Besides IPL, MS Dhoni had led India in three major ICC title victories since 2007 which included the 2007 T20 World Cup, 2011 World Cup and 2013 ICC Champions Trophy in England.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Nazmul Hassan Papon has vehemently opposed the condition of 14-day quarantine condition set by Sri Lanka Cricket, of late ahead of Bangladesh’s tour of the island nation.

This disagreement took place after SLC has extended the quarantine requirement from seven days to two weeks. Papon had made it clear that the Bangladesh players would find it difficult to remain restricted to their hotel rooms for a fortnight.

“Their term and conditions are unique even for countries which have already hosted cricket during this pandemic,” ESPNcricinfo quoted Nazmul Hassan Papon as saying.

Bangladesh is set to face Sri Lanka for the three-match Test series which is scheduled to begin at the fag end of October. The upcoming Test series is the part of the ICC World Test Championship.

The Bangladesh head Papon further reiterated that rest of the hosting countries have set a seven-day condition for the quarantine period before players will be allowed to train on the ground.

It is not child’s play: Nazmul Hassan on quarantine

Nazmul Hassan went on to say that they can’t play such major event while being informed that visiting team can’t venture out of their rooms after landing in Sri Lanka. He has termed the conditions harsh and added that it is not an easy task to be accomplished.

Hassan, who attended an immediate meeting in Dhaka, was flanked by many senior officials.

“At least [other countries] are allowing training after seven days of quarantine but SLC has informed us that our group cannot even get out [of their hotel rooms] for food for 14 days. It is not child’s play. A team cannot play in the World Test Championship in this way,” Papon added.

IPL 2020: Ryan Harris Opens Up On Ishant Sharma’s Significance In Delhi Capitals’ Camp

Considering the experience and significance of Ishant Sharma, Delhi Capitals’ (DC) bowling coach Ryan Harris had taken help from the lanky pacer – to communicate in a better possible way, with rest of the youngsters within the Delhi camp. He further admitted that he has Ishant around as a ‘leader’ when he speaks with the bowlers.

Harris remarked that he wants to clear the ideas to his wards and for that, he has taken help of star bowler Ishant to pass on messages — to those who are still struggling to understand it. He further hailed Ishant for translating things to his bowling partners aptly.

“Most of the guys here are pretty good (with English), but there’s still one or two who sometimes might not quite get it. So I’ve spoken to Ishant, for instance, to make sure that he can (translate) and he’s doing it beautifully.

“So I’m making sure that if I talk to one of the younger guys, he (Ishant) is around so that the player knows what I’m saying to make sure that we are on the same page,” Ryan Harris told Times of India.

Harris further added that Ishant knew what he has to do being as a bowling spearhead — and what he had learnt while representing India at the highest level across formats.

“I’ve spoken to Ishant about being a leader. I don’t have to do that because he knows that he naturally does that (lead the bowling unit) with the amount of cricket he has played,” Ryan Harris said.

In terms of proceeding towards the things, Ishant shares a great bond with Harris. The Aussie expects a lot from the bowler who had snared 71 wickets in 89 IPL fixtures so far since 2008.

Ryan Harris on the healthy relationship with Ishant Sharma:

A person in charge within the bowling department, Ishant had thoroughly impressed Harris, who replaced former Australian all-rounder James Hopes as a coach. The ex-cricketer had cited personal reasons to pull out of the IPL 2020.

Harris has further termed his relationship with Ishant as ‘positive’. He further hopes that it augurs well in the upcoming edition.

“So having someone like him, an experienced guy who wants to talk cricket with me all the time and wants to learn from me, that for me is a really good, positive relationship,” Ryan Harris added.

RyanHarris, who himself featured in the IPL for now-defunct Deccan Chargers and Kings XI Punjab, knows the niceties of the lucrative league. He had been part of the KXIP as the bowling coach in IPL 2019.

The bowling all-rounder Harris had featured in 37 IPL matches in which he had bagged 45 wickets with his best bowling figures of four for 34.

In 12th edition of the IPL, Capitals under the dynamic leadership of Shreyas Iyer finished third on the list with nine wins in 14 matches.

It becomes all together important to note that besides Ishant, Capitals’ fast bowling attack would also rely on Mohit Sharma and Avesh Khan in particular.

Besides, Harshal Patel and Tushar Despande will be eager to make an impact – to make things count for their team. And, Harris is expecting them to yield desired results given to the amount of practice they have been involved.

Capitals would heavily really on spin ploy which is formed by Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel and Amit Mishra. Having a trio within the squads, it is seen as a major boost for the team on considering the spin-friendly conditions in the UAE.

Aakash Chopra Sees A Lot Of Potential In KL Rahul As Team India Skipper After Virat Kohli

Cricketer-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra is of the view that temperamentally strong – KL Rahul could be the next possible captain of Team India if Virat Kohli would decide to give away his captaincy in the foreseeable future.

Chopra further reiterated that one has to hand over the duties from time to time while citing an example of MS Dhoni, who was succeeded by Kohli as a leader.

“As they say, a time comes when you have to pass on the baton like MS Dhoni did to Kohli and Kohli will also have to do to someone at some point. When he does that, it is possible that Rahul will be next in line,” Aakash Chopra said.

Interestingly, former Indian opener Chopra, who talked about calculated decisions further made these comments after responding to a number of questions on his official Facebook page.

“Actually we will get an idea of his captaincy, how he runs the game, what strategies he uses,” Chopra further said.

During the Facebook live, Chopra further asserted that he has high hopes on Rahul as a captain for King XI Punjab (KXIP) when he was asked about India’s top-order batsman’s potential as a skipper.

“I have hope that his captaincy will be good,” Chopra added.

Owing to the observations, Chopra further opined that Rahul has all the ingredients in him what actually captain is bound to have to marshal his troops on the field.

Besides, he believes the opportunity at KXIP will help him to prove his mettle as a captain.

Also, it is being seen as the prospect to gauge Rahul in terms of a leadership role during the impending edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Overall, Chopra opined that Rahul will be good at making decisions for his team in the IPL.

“So, this IPL will show us how KL Rahul will be like a captain but I feel, the manner in which I have seen him play and his temperament, I feel he will be a good captain,” Chopra stated.

Interestingly, in the final T20I against New Zealand, Rahul had handed a seven-run win to India as a leader earlier this year after Rohit Sharma picked an injuring during batting. In that particular overseas series, Virat Kohli was rested which further opened the doors for Rahul – to lead from the front in some point of time.

The 42-year-old Chopra remarked that Kohli and Rohit fall in the same age group – and India had to look for a youngster as a captain in the future.

“If we see Kohli and Rohit, they are of the same age bracket and at one time you may feel that they are not captain material anymore,” Aakash Chopra stated on passing the baton for the leadership.

Now, it would be interesting to see how KL Rahul will exhibit his skills as KXIP skipper in IPL 2020.

KXIP will face Delhi Capitals in their first match of the IPL 2020 at Dubai International Stadium on September 20.

Harbhajan Singh Reminisces About Virat Kohli’s Six On Sanath Jayasuriya’s Bowling

Even since Virat Kohli has emerged into the international scene, he has maintained the standard despite losing cool most of the times. However, veteran spinner Harbhajan Singh has recalled an incident when courageous Kohli hit Sri Lankan legendary bowler a six.

Harbhajan Singh, who recently pulled out of the IPL 2020 citing personal reasons, recalled his encounter with Indian skipper Kohli which took place during the Mumbai Indians vs Royal challengers Bangalore match of the inaugural edition of the cash-rich IPL.

The star off-spinner Harbhajan on Star Sports’ programme ‘IPL memories’ reiterated that he had heard Kohli’s name from Lalchand Rajput much before the IPL Players’ Auction 2008.

Back then, Harbhajan led Indians in the absence of Sachin Tendulkar.

“I had heard Virat Kohli’s name before the IPL auction from Lalchand Rajput. In an IPL game, I was the captain of the Mumbai Indians, Sachin paaji was sitting out,” Harbhajan stated.

What showed Harbhajan Singh that Virat Kohli is ‘one for the future’?

Known for his fearless approach, Kohli had always tried to dominate the bowlers and so he did against Jayasuriya.

Harbhajan further revealed that Kohli had stepped out to struck a six which subsequently gave him an idea of how Kohli has been one for future for India some 12 years ago.

“Virat Kohli hit Jayasuriya for a six by stepping out of his crease. He was not afraid of the fact that a man of Jayasuriya’s stature was bowling to him. That showed me that he is one for the future,” Harbhajan said.

Over the years, Kohli has become a renowned cricketer across the globe for his remarkable show with the bat especially his way of batting in the run-chase.

The veteran batsman in the contemporary cricket had further led his team to finest victories which included a historic Test series victory over Australia in 2018-19.

Given to the domination across all three departments, Kohli also became first-ever Indian skipper to hand India a Test series win on Australian soil.

Besides, Harbhajan, former Indian left-arm fast-bowler Irfan Pathan had also recalled Kohli’s emergence. He further hailed Kohli for his work ethic on being focused on what he loved to become a star.

Pathan further added that Kohli has always enjoyed his game and never set cricket as his secondary choice which eventually helped him to evolve in the game.

“The good thing is that he always kept his focus on cricket. This is why he is one of the best players in the world right now and it shows how much commitment he has,” Pathan said about Virat Kohli.

Former Indian cricketer Subramaniam Badrinath has also heaped praises on Kohli approach towards the gentleman’s game.

Meanwhile, Kohli-led RCB has regrouped in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to set their sights on their maiden IPL title as the IPL 2020 will commence from September 19 in Abu Dhabi.

MS Dhoni Has High Hopes On Go-To Man Deepak Chahar; Ajit Agarkar Expects CSK Bowler To Remain Fit During IPL 2020

In recent times, fast bowler Deepak Chahar has been brilliant for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) with skipper MS Dhoni relying on his services, as former Indian pacer Ajit Agarkar wants him to keep fitness levels despite not-so-prepared for the Indian Premier League (IPL).

“Hopefully, the fitness levels are there, it’s about getting the skills right and getting some sort of bowling into your legs while they have some practice games, he’s probably going to be ready,” Ajit Agarkar revealed in Star Sports’ Cricket Connected show.

Of late, CSK team has been in troubled waters from the unavailability of two-star players – Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh to the testing positive of Chahar himself and promising Ruturaj Gaikwad.

Also, 11 other members were tested positive which had somewhat added to a disturbance after three-time champions CSK had landed in the UAE.

Agarkar further asserted that extra quarantine had affected Chahar’s preparations for the IPL.

MS Dhoni depends on Deepak Chahar: Ajit Agarkar

Meanwhile, Agarkar has expressed concern over Chahar fitness, as the latter had got less time to prepare for the 13th season of IPL.

Thus it adds a lot of pressure on the players who are with the squad and on those lines, Agarkar believes how crucial it is for the Chennai-based franchise to have Chahar at his best.

“As far as Chahar is concerned, I know Dhoni depends on him a lot to start with the new ball or bowls him upfront, but when you have not played cricket for as long as all these players have, plus he has had this extra quarantine because of turning positive might have less preparation time,” Ajit Agarkar said about Chahar.

Chahar, who made his senior team debut on the back of rollicking performances in the IPL 2018, has been an asset for Dhoni – to start of the proceedings for the CSK.

Deepak Chahar struggled due to back injury:

Given to the line and length of Chahar, it has impressed Dhoni a lot which eventually saw captain cool showing a faith of him by using him in the initial stages of the game, to yield desired results.

Earlier, Ajit Agarkar has expressed concern after stress fracture and back issues had kept Chahar out of the field for a while despite COVID-19 lockdown.

After a back injury in December 2019, Chahar had struggled to roll over his arm quite often than not. Well, it remains to be seen how he will go along in the much-awaited Twenty20 competition.

Behind closed doors, CSK will take on defending champions Mumbai Indians in the lung-opener on September 19 at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

IPL 2020: Aakash Chopra On Trifling Weaknesses Of Delhi Capitals

Former Indian batsman Aakash Chopra, who made his career in commentating, believes Shreyas Iyer-led Delhi Capitals could face issue on lacking the strength in fast-bowling department owing to the Indian contingent — in the squad for IPL 2020.

The ex-opening batter for India explained it in his SWOT analysis of the Delhi-based franchise. So much so, Chopra feels if Indian pacers would miss out, Capitals can still do well while having Kagiso Rabada and Daniel Sams in the line-up.

“I can’t find too many weaknesses in the Delhi Capitals lineup. There aren’t any glaring weaknesses in this side. There is a minor concern in the fast-bowling department. And that is the Indian fast-bowling department but they can do without them.

“Even if they don’t play Indian fast bowlers, they could still manage because they can play both Kagiso Rabada and Daniel Sams,” Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube show.

Ishant Sharma holds the key for DC, Aakash Chopra on his significance:

Pertinently, Capitals boast about the experience of Ishant Sharma, who has a lot of expectations — and he could further help the youngsters in the camp.

Chopra reiterated that except Ishant, Indian bowling unit of Capitals don’t offer too much which he believes is their minor weakness.

“Ishant Sharma is already doing well, so they can play him but other than him they do not have depth in the Indian fast bowling department which is the only slight little weakness that I can think of,” Chopra maintained.

With Capitals eyeing their maiden title, they have services of Mohit Sharma, Avesh Khan, Tushar Deshpande and Harshal Patel to rely on. Mohit, who has delivered goods in the lucrative league could be a bowler — to watch out for despite struggling, of late.

Besides during the observation, the 42-year-old Chopra reiterated that he can’t see any major weakness within the squad which is going into the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League.

The former Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batsman Chopra is hopeful that it could turn out be a season for Capitals.

“I honestly can’t see weaknesses, I can’t see palpable threats for the Delhi Capitals franchise. This year, fingers crosses, is going to be of the Delhi Capitals is what I feel,” Aakash Chopra added.

Considering other minor threats, Chopra feels new recruits in the lower-middle order could be one of the issues besides the batting positions of Iyer and Rishabh Pant given to their preferred spots.

“If I nitpick, I could say that the players might have to bat away from their favourite spots. Because both Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer might want to play in the top three, which is not possible. Someone will have to play at No.4, if that is a weakness,” Aakash Chopra further said.

Before signing off, Chopra their credited Capitals’ spin bowling attack and believes there won’t be any problem when it comes to the playing XI.

Steven Smith Clears Second Concussion Test Ahead Of Manchester ODI

Australia batting star Steven Smith on Saturday (September 12), has passed his second concussion test in Manchester after coping a blow on his head during a gruelling practice session in nets ahead of the first ODI at Old Trafford.

Now, Smith is looking comfortable to make a return at the top — for the second ODI come this Sunday. Earlier, the right-handed batsman Smith was replaced at number three by Marcus Stoinis, who slammed 43 off 34 balls on a surface which did a bit with the ball.

All eyes on Steven Smith ahead of 2nd ODI:

Besides, Smith Mitch Starc is keen to partake in the second ODI. On Friday, Smith had undergone first concession test, according to the Cricket Australia (CA) spokesperson.

However, he didn’t have a game owing to the precautionary measures before passing the second test inside 24 hours of passing the first test. Despite the latest results, Smith will be monitored by medicos until Sunday’s game.

“I think it was a good decision in the end. There’s no need to take unnecessary risks with head injuries,” Aussie all-rounder Mitch Marsh stated about Steven Smith.

Moreover, Marsh believes the team is in good stead and Smith’s return boost the team given to his amount of experience and way of handling the precarious situations during a game.

He also added that the selection committee has a lot on the table after drawing first blood against England in the 50-over leg.

“It probably gives our selection committee a few headaches now because the top order struck them beautifully, without getting a big score. Anytime you’ve got Steve Smith coming back into the team it’s a great feeling,” Marsh said.

Pertinently, Smith was felled by Jofra Archer’s nasty bouncer during the Ashes competition last year which eventually saw him slamming a double ton in the final Test after missing out the third Test and second innings of the second Test.

Speaking about the first game between England and Australia, the visitors won the first ODI by 19 runs following a splendid show from paceman Josh Hazlewood and Adam Zampa. Hazlewood snared three wickets after conceding just 26 runs in his quota of 10 overs.

On the other side, leg-spinner Zampa produced magic to clinch four wickets. Despite Sam Billings slamming a century, with Jonny Bairstow scoring 84, Australia bowlers put up a good show after batters set a target of 295 for hosts.

For England, Billing scored 118 off 110 balls with the help of 14 fours and two sixes.

Earlier, with the help of Glenn Maxwell’s 77 and Mitchell Marsh’s 73, Australia managed to post 294 for nine on the board on a wicket which helped new-ball bowlers.

Now, Australia leading the series 1-0, England would be keen to level the series on September 13.
