With 2019 World Cup around the corner, things between former Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi and Team India cricketer-turned-politician are not settling down anytime soon. The sour relationship of the duo has continued, which further saw them taking a dig at each other from time to time.
Recently, Pakistan all-rounder has lashed out at World Cup-winning player Gambhir. Afridi, who has faced criticism for glaring errors in his memoir — ‘The Game Changer’.
He has termed Gambhir as a ‘bewakoof’ (fool) during one of the pressers following the latter’s suggestion of not playing against Pakistan.
In his recent media briefing, a reporter of local Pakistani channel has asked Afridi about his viewpoints regarding Gambhir. The latter has vehemently reiterated that India should not play Pakistan and forfeit the World Cup match scheduled on June 16 at the Old Trafford in Southampton.
To which Afridi responded with a stern reply.
“Does this look like something which a sensible person would say? Do educated people talk like this?”
The southpaw Gambhir, who’s known as the man of the finals, made a statement following Pulwama attack. He stated India should avoid facing Pakistan following the sacrifice of soldiers.
With both players happily retired now, they have further set focus on their respective domains. But when it comes to them, they leave no stone unturned while scathing each other.
Going by their character, both cricketers have played cricketer with much intensity for their respective countries.
Meanwhile, Gambhir, who recently contested elections for Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from Delhi East during the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, has emerged as a winner connivingly while defeating Indian National Congress’ (INC) Arvinder Singh Lovely. Meanwhile, they were followed by Aam Aadmi Party’s Atishi Marlena.
Gautam has aggregated total of 55.3 which is roughly about 6,96,156
How the bitter relationship begins:
Their ugly-spat took place during Kanpur ODI in 2007 following the run-in incident. Thus, the duo was charged by the world cricket governing body ICC for hurling invectives at each other after a mid-pitch collision
