Riding on a rather surprising fifer from all-rounder Karim Janat, Afghanistan registered a comfortable 41-run win over West Indies in the second T20I to make the third T20I a must-watch. Kieron Pollard-led side had been the dominant force until yesterday West Indies won ODI series 3-0 and also registered a comfortable win in the first T20I – but Janat’s spell turned out to be the game-changer.
The right-arm medium pacer dismissed West Indies’ middle-order cheaply. Later in the innings, he also dismissed Keemo Paul. His other scalps included Evin Lewis, Shimron Hetmyer, Sherfane Rutherford and Pollard. His spell meant West Indie were never in the contention to chase the target but they managed to play full 20 overs in which they scored 108 runs.
Both the teams have everything to play for in the third T20I and Afghanistan will hope to stun the World Champions, again.
The conditions are expected to assist batsmen but if the teams manage low scores, then shot selection is to be blamed. The target wasn’t tough for West Indies but they seemed to have taken it too lightly, which cost them the match.
Injury update and availability –
All the players from both the teams are available for selection and it is unlikely that the captains would make any change. Brandon King, despite managing 16 runs in two T20Is, is expected to be preferred over Lendl Simmons for the opening job with Evin Lewis.
Here is the likely playing XI of both the teams –
West Indies: Brandon King, Evin Lewis, Shimron Hetmyer, Denesh Ramdin, Kieron Pollard, Sherfane Rutherford, Jason Holder, Kesrick Williams, Keemo Paul, Hayden Walsh, Sheldon Cottrell
Afghanistan: Hazratullah Zazai, Asghar Afghan, Ibrahim Zadran, Najibullah Zadran, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Mohammad Nabi, Gulbadin Naib, Rashid Khan, Karim Janat, Naveen-ul-Haq, Mujeeb Ur Rahman
