Pakistan is ready to host the entire 2020 edition of Pakistan Super League (PSL). A total of 28 foreigners are in the Platinum Category list – the top category in the tournament. Many big names are in this list.
On last Wednesday (13th November), the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced the 28-member foreign players’ Platinum Category list. The revised salary cap of this list Pakistan Rupees 23-34 million (approx. US$147-218k).These players will participate in the upcoming players’ draft for the next PSL season.
Six South African players and seven English players are in the Platinum Category list in PSL 2020 players’ draft
Former South African star AB de Villiers has already pulled himself out from the PSL 2020 season. But six South African players have registered their names in the Platinum Category list. These six South African international players are Hashim Amla, JP Duminy, Colin Ingram, Rilee Rossouw, Dale Steyn and Imran Tahir.
However, more numbers of English players have registered their names in the Platinum Category list than the total number of South African players. A total of seven English players are on this list. These are Moeen Ali, Harry Gurney, Alex Hales, Chris Jordan, Liam Plunkett, Adil Rashid and Jason Roy.
A total of five West Indies players are in the Platinum Category list. They are Carlos Brathwaite, Dwayne Bravo, Evin Lewis, Sunil Narine and Kieron Pollard.
Three Australian and Afghanistan players have registered their names in the same list. Mohammad Nabi, Mujeeb-ur-Rehman and Rashid Khan are the three Afghan players in this list. Meanwhile, the Australian cricketers in this list are Dan Christian, Ben Cutting and Chris Lynn.
From Sri Lanka, only Angelo Mathews and Thisara Perera have been included in the Platinum Category list. Colin Munro and Sandeep Lamichhane are lone players in this list from New Zealand and Nepal respectively.
The PCB will announce soon the remaining names who will compete in the upcoming players’ draft. Diamond, Gold, Silver and Emerging Category lists will be also announced very soon. In the first week of December, the players draft will be conducted.
The 2020 edition will be the first time when Pakistan will host the entire PSL tournament. It is likely to begin in late February 2020 and end in late March 2020.
Dale Steyn, Moeen Ali are excited
South African fast bowler Dale Steyn is excited to play the entire PSL in front of the Pakistan fans.
Steyn said according to the PCB news release, “Cricket means the world to Pakistani fans and I am excited that I will get to be a part of the PSL draft pool.”
On the other hand, the English all-rounder Moeen Ali has also a similar feeling after his name has been included in this top list.
Moeen said, “I am very excited that I am going to be a part of such an incredible pool of players for the PSL Player Draft. On the circuit, players talk about the quality cricket that they have experienced playing in the PSL and I can’t wait to be a part of it.”
