IPL 2020: Brad Hogg Unhappy With MS Dhoni’s Demotion In Batting Order

Brad Hogg, the former Australian left-arm chinaman is unhappy with the way Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper MS Dhoni has approached IPL 2020 as a batsman. MS Dhoni demoted himself to number 7 in both games played so far and the likes of Sam Curran, Kedar Jadhav and Ravindra Jadeja batted ahead of him.

While CSK won the first game against Mumbai Indians due to Ambati Rayudu‘s brilliant 71, they needed MS Dhoni the batsman to step up in the game against Rajasthan Royals. But MS Dhoni did not bat up the order and CSK ended up losing against Rajasthan Royals by 16 runs. Brad Hogg believes that if MS Dhoni batted up the order, CSK might have won the game.

Brad Hogg Felt MS Dhoni Lacked Confidence And CSK Lacked Veterans Like Harbhajan Singh And Suresh Raina

Brad Hogg feels that MS Dhoni’s lack of confidence in his batting is showing on his other teammates as well and that he has to step up and bat up the order if CSK are to win IPL 2020. CSK are without Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh, both of whom opted out of the tournament despite being named in the preliminary squad.

“I am not happy with MS Dhoni’s confidence. He didn’t put himself in the pressure situation the other night because he wasn’t prepared for the tournament. And that for me does not give any confidence to the team and puts a dampener on the campaign. Especially when you haven’t got other leaders in the team like Harbhajan and Raina, as they could have taken a bit of the weight off his shoulders,” Brad Hogg said on his YouTube channel.

Rajasthan Royals scored 216/7 at batting first but despite CSK’s Faf Du Plessis scoring a brisk 72 and MS Dhoni hitting 3 sixes in the last over, CSK could only manage 200 as RR won by 16 runs.

Brad Hogg Backs Leading Wicket Taker Of India In IPL Amit Mishra To Play Well

Brad Hogg backs spinner Amit Mishra to perform well in absence of Ravichandran Ashwin for Delhi Capitals.
Ravichandran Ashwin had injured his shoulder in Delhi Capitals’ first game against Kings XI Punjab which Delhi Capitals won in Super Over. Ashwin got injured after picking up 2 wickets in the solitary over he bowled while diving to save a single run in the last ball.

While the team management believes that he will be fit to play against CSK, Brad Hogg feels that risking a spinner like Ravichandran Ashwin will not be a good idea as many matches are still left and Amit Mishra can play a crucial role in his absence. Amit Mishra has 157 IPL wickets to his name and is only behind pacer Lasith Malinga, who has 170 IPL wickets.

“I wouldn’t risk Ravichandran Ashwin for the game against CSK. I would bring in Amit Mishra. Yes, you might lose a little bit with the bat but you will not lose anything with the ball. Mishra is the second leading wicket-taker in IPL history. I wouldn’t change the rest of the team to make this swap. I would give everyone the same roles as they had in the first game,” Brad Hogg said.

The Delhi Capitals are playing against the Chennai Super Kings on Friday at Dubai. As per latest updates, Delhi Capitals have fielded Amit Mishra, Axar Patel, Anrich Nortje, Avesh Khan and Kagiso Rabada in playing XI.
