Australian cricketer David Warner has impressively performed in all three forms of cricket. Also, He has convincingly handed many wins to his team in the shortest format. Well, the southpaw soon wants to end his career in the T20 format to focus on the other two formats.
Recently, David Warner won the Allan Border Medal for Australia’s Cricketer of The Year. The opener is the central figure of Australia and has single-handedly given won games for his country in the T20 formats.
The 33-year-old feels that his body needs rest at this age. So, after playing the two T20 World Cup 2020 and 2021, Warner might retire from this particular format. While he also explained that he did not participate in the Big Bash League (BBL) to rest his body and mind.
“I don’t have a BBL team; I took a break during this period, and that was about my body and my mind, making sure I’m getting ready for the next series that comes up,” Warner was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo.
“If you look at T20 internationals, we’ve got back-to-back World Cups as well, that’s probably a format that could be one I’d probably drop in a few years.”
“I have to look at the schedule; it’s going to be very difficult [for me] to play all three forms and good luck to all the guys who want to keep playing that. You talk to guys like AB de Villiers and Virender Sehwag, these guys who’ve done it for a long time, it does become challenging. Having three young kids and my wife at home all the time, constant traveling becomes very difficult. If it was to come down to [leaving out] one format, it would probably be the international T20s.”
Warner has played 76 T20Is and scored 2079 runs with an average of 30.57. While in ODI, he has scored 5353 runs in 119 games at the striking rate of 140.85.
In Tests, he recently achieved a new feat, scoring his maiden triple century against Pakistan.
