Dinesh Karthik, Rishabh Pant Miss Out on Sourav Ganguly’s 2019 World Cup Squad for India
Former Indian National Cricket Team Sourav Ganguly has picked his 15-man probable squad of Team India for the upcoming 2019 World Cup. Also, the veteran cricketer revealed it’s too early to pick the Men in Blue’s squad with players all set to partake in the twelfth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). However, Ganguly didn’t pick wicket-keeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik and MS Dhoni’s much-touted successor-to-be Rishabh Pant.
However, it would be hard for the think tank on snubbing the back-up wicketkeeper for the ODI showpiece.
Also, Ganguly didn’t rule out the option of Rahul at the top.
“The opening combination should not be tweaked. Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan are the ideal pair to give India a fast start. Shikhar and Rohit should open. Other than the two, Rahul is another batsman who can open,” PTI quoted Ganguly.
The 46-year Ganguly has backed Shankar for coming good with the ball. In the Nagpur ODI, Shankar bowled a spectacular last-over to help India win a game by eight runs.
Ganguly prefers Shankar over Jadeja:
Ganguly categorically stated spin-bowling all-rounder should not be in the coveted squad led by Virat Kohli.
“Ravindra Jadeja should not be in the World Cup team. Vijay Shankar bowled beautifully in the Nagpur match. I think Vijay deserves his World Cup spot,” Ganguly added.
Interestingly, Ganguly who led India in the grand finale of 2003 World Cup, is hopeful to see the squad delivering according to the expectations.
While having experience on his back, Ganguly reiterated the bowlers have done exceedingly well for India. He expects bowlers will play a pivotal role in the United Kingdom. The mega event will commence from May 30 in London.
In addition, Ganguly added the pacers have been delivering on a regular basis which is a good sign during an ongoing ODI series against Australia.
“The Indian pace attack is fantastic. Whether its Bumrah or Shami, the Indian pacers are performing consistently. The pacers will play an important factor for the team in England,” Ganguly said.
Ganguly wants Kohli to bat at No.3:
Ganguly, who has lauded Kohli’s efforts, suggested he should continue to bat at his regular position.
“Virat is being Virat. He is on top of his game. Virat should bat in his usual number 3 slot. Rayudu at 4, Dhoni at 5 and Kedar at number 6,” Ganguly inferred.
Owing to the latest developments, Ganguly is confident of senior campaigners to work in tandem to bring desired results in English conditions.
Here’s Sourav Ganguly’s squad for the 2019 World Cup:
Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, K L Rahul, Virat Kohli, Ambati Rayudu, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Kedar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Vijay Shankar, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav and Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
