Five Players Who Were One-Season Wonders in IPL History

Indian Premier League (IPL) is not only a very popular tourney in India but also in the entire cricket world. Since the introduction of IPL in 2008, it has brought many talented cricketers to the limelight. Also, many top cricketers have maintained their familiar class in this lucrative league.

Some of the cricketers performed superbly, particularly in one IPL season. In that particular season, they were one of the heroes of their respective teams, but they failed to keep delivering in the other IPL seasons. Well, some of them even hugely struggled to retain their spots in the playing XI for the rest of IPL seasons.

Here, we are talking about those five cricketers who had an only good season in IPL career.

Swapnil Asnodkar (Rajasthan Royals – 2008):

While Rajasthan Royals (RR) won the inaugural IPL (2008), Swapnil Asnodkar played an important role for his team. The right-handed batsman scored 311 runs in nine matches with an average 34.55 (strike-rate 133.47). He hit two half-centuries in that season, including the best of 60. But he never showed the same form in other IPL seasons as he represented Royals till 2011.

Best IPL season (2011) 14 16 3/13 17.06 5.46 0/0

The Punjab-based leg-spinner Rahul Sharma played for India in four ODIs and two T20Is between 2011 and 2012. He played in five IPL seasons, representing three different teams (Deccan Chargers 2010; Pune Warriors India 2011-2013 and Delhi Daredevils 2014). \

However, he had only one successful IPL season, and that was his first season for Pune Warriors India (PWI) in 2011. While he was the leading wicket-taker for his team in that season with 16 wickets, he also ended up as the joint seventh most wicket-taker in that edition. But his team finished ninth on the points table in 2011. He failed to repeat that splendid performance in other IPL seasons.

In that season, the right-arm medium pacer got 17 wickets in 16 matches (average 26.05 and economy rate 7.38).

Gony ended up as the joint fourth most wicket-taker in that season and joint most wicket-taker for the CSK. Later, Gony continued his IPL career for CSK till 2010, and he also represented Deccan Chargers (2008-2010) and Kings XI Punjab (2013-2017), but never showed the same character with the ball.
