Gautam Gambhir Reveals His Best Captain In IPL History

Though the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2020) hasn’t started due to the novel COVID-19 or coronavirus outbreak, the cricket experts and cricketers are talking about this game. Recently, one of the successful IPL captains, Gautam Gambhir has revealed his best captain in IPL history.

The IPL started in 2008. Since then, the tournament was organised successfully every year till 2019. Though the tournament faced many tough challenges, it always won the battle. But the coronavirus has put the new challenges in this tournament which is tougher for the stronger IPL. While India and the other countries are still fighting against this virus, the future of the IPL 2020 is still doubtful, which was initially scheduled between 29th March and 24th May 2020.

Coming back to the tournament history, IPL has produced many top cricketers along with successful captains. While Shane Warne-led Rajasthan Royals (RR) stunned everyone in the inaugural IPL edition (2008) by winning that trophy, MS Dhoni, Gautam Gambhir, Rohit Sharma etc. have later shown their dominance in this tournament as the captain.

Apart from a two-year suspension, MS Dhoni has always played the regular leadership role for Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Dhoni-led CSK have never finished below the top four as they only missed out the IPL finals for two seasons out of ten active seasons and they have won three IPL trophies.

However, in the last edition, Mumbai Indians (MI) achieved better success in IPL history as they became the first team to win this tournament for the four times. Since Rohit Sharma took the leadership responsibility of this team, MI have changed hugely as Rohit-led MI have won all their four IPL trophies.

On the other hand, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have enjoyed their best times in IPL history under Gautam Gambhir’s leadership. Under that former cricketer’s leadership, the KKR won two IPL trophies. Now, Gambhir has chosen Rohit Sharma as his best IPL captain. Gambhir has even predicted that Rohit can finish with six-seven IPL trophies.

Gambhir said, on Star Sports’ Cricket Connected show, “I think it’s Rohit Sharma. He has won it four times. Captaincy is all about winning trophies.

“He will end up being the most successful IPL captain of all time as well. He has 4 already, he may finish at 6-7 maybe under his belt.”

Former Indian batting coach Sanjay Bangar has also praised the MI captain Rohit Sharma. According to Bangar, captain Rohit’s success rate under pressure is incredible than any others.

Bangar said, “The number of close matches that Mumbai Indians have won actually show Rohit’s success as captain.

“The choices that he makes under pressure are good. Dhoni is backed by the result, but among the pure captaincy point of view, the smartness and decision making, I would say Rohit Sharma.”
