I Believe in Empowering People – Virat Kohli on Dressing Room Atmosphere
Team India skipper Virat Kohli had made it clear that he is treating his teammates equally, whether it’s about MS Dhoni or wrist-spinner, Kuldeep Yadav. While speaking about the dressing room atmosphere in the Indian team, Kohli’s insisted that his approach remains the same for the players.
While speaking about the forthcoming two-match Test series against Windies, Kohli maintained it’s happening for the right time. He also believes that it’s the right time that the series is taking place.
Pertinently, the Test series will mark the beginning of the ICC Test Championship.
Also, Kohli led from the forefront to help India-to top the standings in the ICC Test rankings. Also, he had equally backed his teammates to come good in crunch moments.
Kohli motivates his teammates:
He also revealed that he aims to encourage the players.
“I’ll talk to them like, ‘this is where you are heading and this is where you have to head. These are the kind of things you should be doing. You’ll regret not correcting those things early like I did. I don’t want you to waste two-three years of your career. You have to play more than what you have played’,” Kohli added.
The No. 1 Test batsman Kohli aims to give his best as a leader on the Caribbean soil.
The 30-year-old Kohli maintained that atmosphere in the team is that any player could ask for anything.
Kohli, who wears heart on his sleeve, is also resisting from scolding his teammates, particularly the younger lot.
“The culture of scolding people isn’t there in the change room now. As friendly as I am with Kuldeep (Yadav), I am the same with MS (Dhoni). The atmosphere is such that anyone can say anything to anyone,” Kohli told ToI.
Meanwhile, Kohli is focused on his game despite feeling it’s hard to ‘digest’ semi-final loss against New Zealand at the Old Trafford. Kohli had played a major role in stabilising India’s cricket alongside former skipper Dhoni.
The batting star had been remarkable with the bat, and he is equally happy with the cordial atmosphere in the dressing room.
Kohli relishes dressing room atmosphere:
The dynamic leader Kohli has also been happy with the way his 11-long years have unfolded. Besides, Kohli is satisfied as players are delighted to express themselves.
The prolific run-getter reiterated that he walks up to his teammates and suggest them not to commit mistakes which he had committed.
“I am like walking up to people and telling them ‘listen, I have committed these mistakes, make sure you don’t do them’,” Kohli added.
While stressing on giving space to his teammates, Kohli further asserted that he does not intervene until he doesn’t feel there is any requirement.
“I believe in empowering people. I believe in giving them space to express themselves and when they come to a stage when they feel jumbled then I’ll have a conversation,” Kohli said.
Meanwhile, India is set to play three T20Is, as many ODIs and two Tests against Windies. The series will get underway in Florida on August 3.
