On Saturday (6th July), India clinched a comfortable victory against Sri Lanka at Leeds in the match 44 of the 2019 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.

After winning the toss, Sri Lanka managed to score 264/7 (50 overs) in the first innings. In reply, India chased down that target comfortably in 43.3 overs after losing just three wickets. India won this match by seven wickets (with 39 balls remaining).

i) Sri Lankan cricketer Angelo Mathews scored 113 runs.

  • It is the highest individual score by a Sri Lankan batsman against India in Cricket World Cup history. The previous record was 103* by Mahela Jayawardene at Mumbai on 2nd April 2011.

 

Jasprit Bumrah

i) Playing his 57th ODI match, the Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah (102 wickets) completed his 100 ODI wickets.

  • Jasprit Bumrah is the second fastest Indian bowler to complete 100 ODI wickets. Mohammed Shami is the fastest Indian bowler to complete 100 ODI wickets as he reached this milestone in 56 ODIs.

 

MS Dhoni

i) Indian wicketkeeper MS Dhoni has made eight stumpings in CWC career.

  • It is the second most stumpings for a wicketkeeper in CWC career. Only the former Sri Lankan wicketkeeper Kumar Sangakkara is ahead of Dhoni with 13 CWC stumpings.

 

ii) Wicketkeeper MS Dhoni has taken 33 catches in CWC career.

  • It is the third most CWC catches for a wicketkeeper. Former wicketkeepers Adam Gilchrist (Australia) and Kumar Sangakkara (Sri Lanka) are ahead of MS Dhoni in this list with 45 and 41 CWC catches respectively.

 

MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja

i) The wicketkeeper MS Dhoni and the left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja have combinedly managed 29 ODI dismissals.

  • MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja are the most successful wicketkeeper-bowler pair in Indian ODI history. The previous record holders were Nayan Mongia and Venkatesh Prasad as they managed 28 ODI dismissals. 

 

KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma

i) Indian openers KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma put an impressive 189-run partnership for the first wicket.

  • It is India’s highest partnership for the opening wicket in the Cricket World Cup history. The previous record was a 180-run partnership between KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma against Bangladesh at Birmingham on 2nd July 2019.

 

ii) Both the Indian openers KL Rahul (111) and Rohit Sharma (103) hit centuries.

  • It was the only third time in CWC history where both the openers hit centuries in the same innings. In the 2011 CWC, both the Sri Lankan openers Upul Tharanga and Tillakaratne Dilshan achieved this feat twice (against Zimbabwe at Pallekele on 10th March 2011, and against England at Colombo, RPS on 26th March 2011).

Virat Kohli

i) Indian captain Virat Kohli has scored 1,029 runs in CWC career.

  • Virat Kohli is the second most run-scorer as an Indian batsman in CWC history. While he surpassed Sourav Ganguly (1,006 runs) in this list, only Sachin Tendulkar (2,278 runs) scored more CWC runs than Kohli.

 

Lasith Malinga

i) Sri Lankan pacer Lasith Malinga took 56 wickets in CWC career.

  • It is the third most wickets for a bowler in CWC career. The top two records in this list are 71 wickets by Glenn McGrath (Australia) and 68 wickets by Muttiah Muralitharan (Sri Lanka).
