Despite the fact that the coronavirus is still dominating the world, the International Cricket Council (ICC) is still hopeful to organise the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020 on time. While the world governing body for cricket had no recent meeting with the Cricket Australia (CA), they still have a positive feeling about this tournament, but they are also preparing for the worst.
ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020 will be the seventh edition of this tournament. Australia will host this tournament for the first time from 18th October to 15th November 2020. However, the coronavirus pandemic has opened up an uncertain fate of the upcoming T20 World Cup. The ICC, CA and Local Organising Committee (LOC) are continuously monitoring the entire situation in this crisis.
There were the media reports in the last week about the meeting between ICC and CA to discuss the upcoming T20 World Cup. However, an ICC official has recently revealed that the ICC and CA didn’t meet in the last week.
According to IANS, the official claimed, “There has been no meeting (in the last week) and there is no update. Contingency planning continues.”
ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020: 16 teams will participate
While the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020 is still around five months away to begin, while some of the cricket family are supporting to carry on this tournament on time, some others believe the postponement fate of this tournament.
A total of 16 teams will participate in the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020. While many national teams will feature in this tournament, many believe that it will be very tough to bring these teams together in this crisis. Some of them have also pointed out the lack of preparation time for this important tournament. Some others also have the negative feeling to organise this tournament in the empty stadiums.
Most of them have supported the postponement plan of this tournament and believe that it will better to organise this tournament in early 2021.
