ICC World Cup 2019: Michael Clarke Hails Rampant Rohit Sharma as World’s Best Opener
Former Australian 2015 World Cup-winning skipper Michael Clarke has lauded Rohit Sharma’s efforts in the white-ball cricket. Clarke has termed Rohit as world’s best opener to grace the contemporary game.
Concurrently, the right-handed batsman has been in a rich vein of form. Since past a couple of years, Rohit has shown remarkable improvement by taking giant strides in the international fold for Team India.
The veteran Aussie batsman has praised Rohit following his incredible show at the ongoing ICC World Cup 2019. Virat Kohli’s deputy is the leading run-getter for India at the ODI showpiece.
The seasoned campaigner Rohit has accumulated 319 runs, and he has been instrumental in laying the foundation for India in the 50-over format. At this World Cup, he is averaging at a staggering 159.90 with his strike-rate of 97.55.
The sublime show from Rohit has helped India to make it to the number second spot owing to the World Cup points table. The Men in Blue are unbeatable at the ODI showpiece with three wins in four matches.
The third leading run-getter of the ongoing twelfth edition of the World Cup, Rohit has slammed two hundreds so far which included 140 off 113 balls against Pakistan inManchester.
Furthermore, he has racked up 122 off 144 deliveries during India’s World Cup opener for India against South Africa.
During Australia’s game, Rohit has played a mature knock off 57.
Amidst all this, Clarke has expressed surprise with the way Rohit has been batting. He added Rohit has struggled to perform at the Indian Premier League (IPL) while leading Mumbai Indians (MI) to its record fourth title against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on May 12.
Rohit Sharma relishes his batting form at the ICC World Cup 2019:
While following Rohit’s game closely, Clarke, who’s also a part of ICC’s commentary panel reiterated that Rohit has also reflected how important a could be.
“Right now, he is batting unbelievably. And to think back that there was so much of talk about his form coming back into this World Cup. He didn’t have the best of the IPL as he has had in the past. But again, he has shown how important his leadership is. And I think that is underrated as well, he is the vice-captain of the side. I loved it when in his first opportunity to stand up for India, he did that as he made a hundred. And against Pakistan, he was in unbelievable form. There is no doubt in my opinion that he is the number one opener in the world,” Clarke told India Today.
Rohit will be keen to continue his show against Afghanistan in Southampton on June 22 (Saturday).
