South Africa batsman Rassie van der Dussen is elated after making it to the Proteas 15-man squad for the ICC World Cup 2019 scheduled in the United Kingdom. The top-quality batsman conceded that his team wouldn’t enter the ODI showpiece as favourites, but he feels the World Cup is a platform to witness some outstanding and equally heartbreaking results.
“I am excited for the World Cup. We don’t go in as favourites, but you never know what can happen,” Van der Dussen told Sport24.
Reason to Van der Dussen’s berth for the World Cup:

The right-handed batsman has made his debut against Pakistan in January, this year. He has accumulated 358 at a staggering average of 88.25. And, to atop it, Van der Dussen has slammed four-half centuries in nine ODIs so far he has had played.
Unfortunately, on debut, he falls short seven of his hundred. However, it has boosted his morale to give his best in the limited opportunities during his top-flight cricket.
“When I had the opportunity to wield the willow, I went out there and did what I have always done. I followed the same processes by taking it one ball at a time. My 93 off 101 balls is definitely an early career highlight from an international point of view and I couldn’t have asked for much more,” Van der Dussen said.
The 30-year-old Van der Dussen expressed it is quite satisfying on making the cut. He added it’s has been an incredible journey thus far.
“Playing for the Proteas is the stuff that dreams are made of and this year has been unbelievable on a personal front. It’s something I have worked towards for a long time in my career and to finally get there was very satisfying,” Van der Dussen maintained.
Proteas are ready for the challenge:

Van der Dussen remarked the support from South Africa will keep the team motivated in the English conditions. He added, they’re ready to give their cent per cent in a bid to lift their maiden ICC title
“I can tell you that we are going to give every ounce of who we are as players in an attempt to win the 2019 World Cup. There are very few instances, if any, that are bigger and come with the amount of honour and responsibility than being chosen to represent the country that you love on the biggest stage in the world. I know the support from back home will be unbelievable and that is always inspiring for a sportsman in general,” Van der Dussen concluded.
Meanwhile, the World Cup will kick-off with hosts England taking on the Proteas on May 30 in London.
