In what could be addressed as a unique move, the ICC World Cup 2019 jersey for Sri Lanka has been made of recycled ocean plastic. The idea through this jersey is to the aware public regarding the preservation of aquatic life. For this Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) has been hailed to take the grand initiative. According to the latest survey, it has been said that eight million metric plastic waste is being dumped every year into the ocean.
The ODI showpiece will commence from May 30 when hosts England will take on South Africa in London.
Earlier, on April 17, the SLC selectors have named their 15-man squad. Interestingly, the board has left out a couple of senior campaigners. More often than not, Lankans have ushered prime minister for distinct series, of late.
However, Dinesh Chandimal and Lasith Malinga have brought stability in the squad. On the other hand, Dimuth Karunaratne, who has featured to play last ODI in 2015, has made a comeback not as a player, but as a team leader too.
The Islanders might emerge as a weaker side in the multi-nation tournament. But they altogether have carried a bold message – to don jersey made up of ocean plastic. It becomes important to mention that the material used in the jerseys has been collected from the ocean.
According to MAS Holdings, which sponsors Lankan jersey, has further used the ocean plastic that was collected from the beaches of the Island nation.

Interestingly, the jersey sports the picture of a turtle. The species is under threat due to the plastic waste troubling the marine life.
Moreover, the manufacturing of the latest World Cup jersey has become the talk of the town. By going this, many have hailed Sri Lankan team for the accepting the brand new idea with an open heart.
In the mega-event, Sri Lanka will kick off their World Cup campaign against New Zealand on June 1st at the Sophia Gardens in Cardiff.
