ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2020: Warm-Ups - India U19 Thrashes Afghanistan U19 After Kartik Tyagi Claims Hat-Trick 1

While the youth teams are in final preparation for the forthcoming U19 Cricket World Cup through the warm-up matches, India U19 team thrashed the Afghanistan U19 side. The 19-year-old right-arm pacer Kartik Tyagi claimed a hat-trick in that game.

In that short rain-interrupted game on last Sunday (12th January), India U19 beat Afghanistan U19 by 211 runs after bundling out for just 44 runs. After winning the toss, the defending champions of U19 CWC team India U19 captain Priyam Garg decided to bat first. Yashasvi Jaiswal (69) and Tilak Varma (55) scored half-centuries, and both were retired out.

Skipper Priyam Garg and wicketkeeper-batsman Dhruv Jurel scored 36 and 21 runs respectively. In the death overs, India U19 lost their wickets in regular intervals as they were restricted to 255/8 (50 overs).

Afghanistan cricketer Abid Mohammadi was the best bowler in that innings as he took three wickets with the bowling figures of 3-0-19-3.

Rajasthan Royals’ sensation Kartik Tyagi impressed in the very first over of the second innings

In the very first over of the second innings, Kartik Tyagi claimed a hat-trick after dismissing captain & opener Frahan Zakhil, Sediqullah Atal and Rahmanullah. While Zakhil was caught behind, Tyagi bowled Atal and Rahmanullah.

In the 2020 IPL auction, Kartik Tyagi (based price INR 20 lakh) was bought by Rajasthan Royals (RR) for INR 1.30 crore. He finished that game as the best bowler of the India U19 side with the bowling figures of 3-1-10-3.

Apart from wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Ishaq (11), who came to bat at the no.8 position, all other batsmen failed to reach the double-digit scores. Extras were the highest scorer in that innings as the Indian colts conceded 13 extras, including nine wides. A total of five batsmen were dismissed for the ducks in that innings where Afghanistan U19 managed to score only 44 runs.

Due to the rain interruption in the second innings, Afghanistan U19 had to chase the 256 runs target in 49 overs.

Other warm-up matches

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka U19 snatched a thrilling 15-run victory against the hosts South Africa U19 in the low scoring encounter. While Sri Lanka U19 managed to score 197 runs in the first innings, the hosts were bundled out for just 182 runs.

On the other hand, Pakistan U19 easily beat Nigeria U19. After bundling out Nigeria youths for just 109 runs, Pakistan U19 chased down that target in 14.3 overs after losing only one wicket.

Zimbabwe U19 vs England U19 match had no result due to the rain interruption. While Zimbabwe U19 were bundled out for just 116 runs, England U19 were batting on 1/0 before the rain stoppage.
