India Vs Sri Lanka 2019/20: Third T20I – Toss Report

India and Sri Lanka are playing the final game of the three-match T20I series at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium (Pune). This time the visiting side Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to field first.

They played the opening game of this series at Guwahati on last Sunday (5th January) night, but unfortunately, it had no result due to rain interruption and mistakes from the ground staff. On last Tuesday (7th January) night, they played the second game of this series at Indore where India won that match by seven wickets with 15 balls to spare.

While India are currently leading this series by 1-0, it has the must-win game for Sri Lanka to save this series. Meanwhile, the hosts only have to avoid the defeat from this match to win this series.

Sri Lanka made two changes

Coming to the toss report of this Pune T20I, the visiting captain Lasith Malinga finally won the toss and expectedly elected to bowl first. Sri Lankan team has made two changes in their playing XIAngelo Mathews and Lakshan Sandakan returned to the playing XI, and Bhanuka Rajapaksa has been dropped from the playing XI along with injured Isuru Udana.

Malinga said after winning the toss, “We will bowl first. There might be dew in the second innings. Our top-four batsmen need to get big runs. Someone needs to make 70-80 runs in top-four. We need a big partnership. We have discussed that. We have two changes. Angelo and Sandakan comes in. Isuru has a problem so he is out.”

India made three changes

After losing the toss, Indian captain Virat Kohli revealed that they have made three changes in the playing XI. While wicketkeeper Sanju Samson has replaced Rishabh Pant, Manish Pandey and Yuzvendra Chahal have joined as the replacement of Shivam Dube and Kuldeep Yadav respectively.

Kohli quoted, “We wanted to bat first as we wanted to do something different today. Toss was almost irrelevant as we knew they wanted to bowl first. Batting first is something we want to do more. Trend is going towards team wanting to chase, we want to be a side who want to embrace the other aspect also so that we are better placed, if things don’t go your way at toss. You can’t go into the match thinking you can only do well when you chase. We want to bat first and bat well. We want to embrace difficult things as well hence the combination of the side is accordingly.

“We have made three changes today. Sanju Samson comes in place of Rishabh Pant. Chahal replaces Kuldeep who gets a rest today and Manish Pandey gets a game in place of Shivam Dube. We are playing with five bowlers and it will be a challenge for them to defend the target.”

Here are the playing XIs of both the teams:

Indian playing XI: Lokesh Rahul, Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer, Virat Kohli (c), Manish Pandey, Sanju Samson (wk), Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Navdeep Saini, Jasprit Bumrah, Yuzvendra Chahal
