ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2020: Warm-Ups – India U19 Beat Zimbabwe Youths Before Beginning Main Journey
India U19 side ended the warm-up journey ahead of the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2020 by continuing their victorious moment. This time they beat Zimbabwe U19, who are currently in very good form.
After winning the toss, India U19 captain Priyam Garg decided to bat first. While the openers failed to play big knocks (Yashasvi Jaiswal 9 and Divyaansh Saxena 17), the next two batsmen handled the situation very well. While Tilak Verma scored 73 runs off 77 balls (retired hurt), skipper Priyam Garg also scored 73 runs off 57 balls (3 fours and 6 sixes).
Later, Kumar Kushagra (36), Shubhang Hegde (20) and Atharva Ankolekar (31) played some crucial knocks that helped India U19 to score 295 runs (49.4 overs) before losing all wickets.
India U19 bowled out Zimbabwe youth for 272 runs
In reply, Zimbabwe U19 lost their wickets in regular intervals as once they were battling on 144/5. At that time, only Milton Shumba (52) played a positive innings before becoming the fifth victim of that team.
But then, Zimbabwe colts had a 96-run partnership for the sixth wicket between Luke Oldknow and wicketkeeper-batsman Dane Schadendorf. However, once again, their batting faced another collapse as they went down from 240/5 to 253/9. Schadendorf tried hard at the last wicket, but his team felt short from the victory. Zimbabwe U19 were bowled out for 272 runs (48.4 overs) and lost that match by 23 runs. While Oldknow scored 66 runs off 86 balls (6 fours and 3 sixes), Schadendorf played the knock of 81 runs off 74 balls (5 fours and 6 sixes).
Kartik Tyagi, who took a hat-trick in the previous warm-up match against Afghanistan U19, once again became the successful Indian bowler in this game with the bowling figures of 8.4-0-33-3. Also, Sushant Mishra (2/28) and Ravi Bishnoi (2/40) picked up two wickets each.
Other warm-up matches – Afghanistan U19 beat England U19
Afghanistan U19 stunned England U19 in the other warm-up game. While Afghanistan youth scored 205/8 (50 overs), England U19 were bundled out for just 184 runs (47.2 overs) as the Asian side won by 21 runs.
On the other hand, Pakistan U19 clinched a four-wicket victory. After bowling out Sri Lanka U19 for 215 runs (49.3 runs), Pakistan colts chased down that target in 45.2 overs after losing six wickets.
The hosts South Africa U19 thrashed Nigeria U19 by eight wickets (with 251 balls remaining). While the Nigerian youth side was collapsed for just 61 runs (37 overs), the home team chased down that target in only 8.1 overs after losing two wickets.
