India vs Australia 2019: Jasprit Bumrah Recalls his Death-Over Brilliance in Vizag T20I

On February 24 (Sunday) Jasprit Bumrah has bowled one of the sublime overs at the fag end of the game. It almost snatched victory from the jaws of defeat. In the India vs Australia 2019 two-match Twenty20 International (T20Is) opener, Bumrah bagged two scalps in the 19th over. He gave away as many runs in the penultimate over of Australian innings, for the Men in Blue.

With Australia chasing the target of 127 in 20 overs, Peter Handscomb and Nathan Coulter-Nile pushed a case pretty close for the Kangaroos. However, Bumrah pulled off a sensational over to keep India in the hunt.

Earlier, visitors required 16 off 12 deliveries which eventually saw Umesh Yadav had 14 runs to defend in the final over of the game in Visakhapatnam.

When Australia required 14 off the last over, Pat Cummins alongside Jhye Richardson got better of Umesh to smash a couple of fours before completing a couple to hand Australia a three-wicket win in the nail-biting finish.

Meanwhile, the 25-year-old Bumrah cited that he has been keen to keep things plain. He added, he is happy to return to the fold following a brief rest when India faced Australia and New Zealand in the limited-overs’ leg.

“Though I was very clear on the execution which I wanted to do. (I am) very happy to be back,” Bumrah told BCCI.tv.

Overall, on his spectacular return, while donning the national colours, Bumrah settled with the figures of three for 16 in four overs.

Bumrah opted for a back of a length ball when Peter Handscomb tried enough without any success.

Following a dot delivery, Bumrah bowled a similar sort of length. However, Handscomb stepped up to settle for a single when a fielder collected the ball at square leg region.

Again, Bumrah aimed for a back of length delivery to avoid conceding a run when Coulter-Nile was facing him.

On the fourth delivery, Bumrah conceded a run with yet another back of a length delivery.

Besides, he managed to pick a wicket on the fifth and sixth delivery of his fourth over while changing his length.

In between, the discussion involved skipper Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma, Bumrah produced a peach of a delivery to clean bowled Coulter-Nile.

Owing to the rare action, Bumrah has emerged as an asset for Team India. With the 2019 World Cup scheduled in England and Wales, an onus would be on him to dictate the terms in English conditions.

The multi-nation ODI showpiece event will commence from May 30 in London.

Also, in the recent past, Bumrah has credited Lasith Malinga for playing a guiding role during Indian Premier League (IPL). Bumrah is plying his trade with Mumbai Indians (MI) led by Rohit Sharma.
