India’s title defence at 2015 World Cup

After 28 years, India became the world champions in 2011, by defeating Sri Lanka in the world cup final at Wankhede Stadium and in turn also fulfilled the dreams of 1.2 billion people. With just less than 4 months left , time has come to prove to the world that us winning the cup was not just a fluke,to prove that we deserved to be the winners than by successfully defending the title.

A lot has happened after the 2011 World cup, the core of that team has changed. Players like Sachin, dravid, Laxman have retired and Gambhir , Sehwag, Zaheer, Harbhajan and Yuvi are finding it difficult to come back in the Team. We don’t have Gary Kirsten as our coach, the guy who many thought played a major part in India’s triumph The present situation is totally different we have so many young talents who are competing for their places in the team and are looking to play in the World Cup.

Players like Virat Kohli and Suresh Raina who were the juniors during the 2011 World cup, have now become the players who are expected to play a key role in India’s title defence. As always India will have a very good and a strong batting line up,with the likes of Kohli, Raina, Dhoni, Rahane, Dhawan, Rohit, Rayadu, Tiwary, and many others. We have some good bowlers like Ravichandran Ashwin,Ravi Jadeja, B.Kumar, Shami,Yadav and it is also expected that veteran Ashish Nehra may also play the World Cup. Our batting line is pretty versatile with players who can play as the situation of the game demands and we also have a mixture of left and right handers.New ball bowlers are capable of swinging the ball and also bowl them at a good pace, spinners as always will be key for captain cool, Ashwin and Jadeja will be expected to bowl some tight overs in the middle and talk ng crucial wickets before the onslaught begins.

India has always been a very good and a competitive ODI team both at home and away series. We have one of the best and the coolest captain of the modern generation, who will also be looking to lead from the front. We also have a very good fielding unit, which will surely play a huge part in those big grounds in Australia. Past players like Sachin, Ganguly and Ponting have said that India have a very good chance of defending their title down under. The only concern for India would be their death bowling and a steady opening partnership. To sum it up India will go in as one of the major contenders of the cup.
