Not the term of the ban, but the nature of it on Steven Smith and David Warner will decide whether they would play in IPL or not.

As per a report in PTI, if both the players are handed a ban which bars them from playing international cricket, they would be allowed to play IPL.

Former Indian player Atul Wassan has come hard against Australian Steven Smith, in particular, following the fresh ball tampering controversy which has taken world cricket by storm.

In this case, they will not be allowed to play for Australia, but the ban will have no impact on them playing T20 league around the world.

It means not just IPL; they can play various other leagues during the ban period.

Earlier, it was deemed that only ban period will affect their participation in IPL.

It’s totally up to the clause and conditions of Cricket Australia now.

If the clause which will bar them from playing any form of cricket is attached, they would not be allowed to play IPL.

While if this clause is not attached, they are free to play any league.

Though, it will rule them out (also Cameron Bancroft) out of next two international series against India.

The Virat Kohli-led side is set to travel Australia for four Tests, three ODIs and three T20Is later this year. If banned, all the three players will miss that series.

They will also not fly to India for limited-overs series to be played next year, before IPL 2019. Cricket Australia is yet to announce its decision on the matter.

The board was to announce the decision on the players yesterday (March 27) but bought one more day. It has been confirmed only these three players were involved in the ‘Sandpaper Gate’.

No other player is under the scanner and is cleared to play next game.

These three, however, will fly back home today (March 28) and will be replaced by Matt Renshaw, Joe Burns and Glenn Maxwell.

Darren Lehmann, Head Coach of Australia, is also cleared. James Sutherland, CEO of Cricket Australia, explained that he was not in known of things regarding the matter.

Australia will play South Africa in the fourth and the final Test in Johannesburg, starting on March 30.
