IPL 2019 Final: MI vs CSK – Twitterati in Awe of Jasprit Bumrah for Calming Quinton de Kock
Amid the battle of nerves in the IPL 2019 final between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Sunday night, Jasprit Bumrah’s heartwarming gesture for his teammate Quinton de Kock has become the talk of the town. In the MI vs CSK last-ball thriller, Bumrah, who brings in the influence has won the hearts for his brilliant sportsmanship act in the crunch moments of the game.
Earlier, table-topper Indians skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bat first. The blue brigade had put up a below-par target of 150 runs. However, in response, Chennai got off to a decent start, but they found themselves in hot waters while losing wickets at the crucial juncture of the game.
Evidently, the flurry of wickets had put pressure on the Super Kings before they lost the game by a mere run when Lasith Malinga trapped Shardul Thakur in front of the wickets as CSK required two off the last ball. Thus, Indians went to lift their fourth title of the IPL since 2013.
Interestingly, there were the moments of anguish and joy during the recently-held grand-finale of the heavyweights as Indians yet again made things fall in their way against 2018 champions led by MS Dhoni.
How it unfolded during the finale:
Bumrah, who bowled his heart out during the epic finale conceded just 14 runs off his four overs. He went on to claim the wickets of Ambati Rayudu and Dwayne Bravo.
Bumrah bowled 19th over of the game when CSK required 18 runs. He went on to bag an all-important wicket of Bravo when de Kock claimed a regulation catch on the very second ball of the penultimate over. Also, he conceded just four runs in the next three balls before Ravindra Jadeja failed to make most of the cut short while facing a back of the length delivery.
Besides, to everyone’s consternation, de Kock has failed to judge the ball. Eventually, it burst through his gloves for four byes. Thus, CSK required nine off six balls.
However, Bumrah went up to the gloveman while beaming a smile only to have a few words. The prominent bowler then wrapped his arms around when there was the rush of adrenaline.
Here’s how Twitter users reacted as Bumrah had a brief conversation with De Kock:
My respect for Bumrah just went up enormously. After that shot of his conversation with de Kock.

Brilliant calmness under pressure from Mumbai. Bumrah's gesture when De Kock missed the last ball and it went for 4 Byes showed his maturity and calmness and Rohit also handled the pressure extremely well. Well tried Chennai. But congratulations Mumbai on a 4th title #MIvCSK

If you’re a young player and looking at Bumrah as an idol, don’t just look at his bowling. Look closely at his reaction to De Kock and Chahar’s slip ups. It’s not just the game you play, it’s how you play the game 🙌

Bumrah is the best we can ever get. Man how was he so calm when the catches were getting dropped and even after those misfields, smiling, supporting the others. SO MATURE! @Jaspritbumrah93 love him! 💙

Need to appreciate Bumrah, he is just a cool head customer. Even when Qdk give 4 byes, he just laughed and walk away.

When de Kock’s miss off Bumrah cost Mumbai Indians 4 byes in the penultimate over, the final seemed lost. And then this happened. There’s the average international sportsman, and then there’s Bumrah. Class. #VivoIPLFinal pic.twitter.com/O6yFKBjY1x

Dhoni being captain cool behind the stumps is credible. But being fast bowler cool, humble, mature is exceptional. Bumrah had a catch dropped off bus bowling and he smiled at the fielder. Keeper conceded a bye in the all important 19th over and he put a hand on his head.

Not just a great bowler. But a great human being too. This moment is actually what makes Bumrah a champion. pic.twitter.com/EIMxeC9t17
