IPL 2019, Match 42: Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Kings XI Punjab- Match Preview, Predicted XI, Time and Venue, Head to Head, Pitch Report, Weather Report, Prediction
Royal Challengers Bangalore outfit will be a confident unit after managing to scrape through to a 1 run victory against the Chennai Super Kings in their previous clash. Despite winning 3 of their last 4 matches, Bangalore still finds themselves at the bottom of the points table.
They need to win their remaining 4 games to harbour hopes of going through to playoffs. Atleast they will be confident after defeating two big teams and will look to take full advantage of a good momentum against the Kings XI Punjab later today.
The Virat Kohli led unit has been bolstered by the return of form by Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers which has kept RCB in a good stead. Their bowling performance in the previous game was just spot on until the final over when Umesh Yadav got whacked all around the park as MS Dhoni collected 24 runs in the first 5 deliveries.
However, he failed to make contact in the final delivery and Parthiv Patel ran out Shardul Thakur as they attempted to scamper for a single to tie the match. Virat Kohli admitted in the post-match presentation MSD gave them a big scare but eventually to win a close match is always a special feeling.
The emergence of an attacking Moeen Ali has also allowed the other batters to play freely. Moeen Ali has been terrific with the big shots and scored a 27 balls 66 against the Kolkata Knight Riders. The southpaw belted Kuldeep Yadav for 27 runs in an over. His bowling on occasions has also come good.
Kings XI Punjab on the other hand will be a worried unit. Despite their situation being slightly better than RCB, Punjab too needs a victory badly after a couple of ordinary performances. Skipper Ravichandran Ashwin has led his troops brilliantly but on certain occasions he hasn’t got the desired support from his teammates.
The opening duo of Chris Gayle and KL Rahul has been an X factor for Punjab since last year and it has continued to be the same this year. After starting off the season quite poorly, KL Rahul has got into form at the correct time. With the World Cup just around the corner, he might play a crucial role for India in the showpiece event.
The middle order batting has been tested on occasions. Mayank Agarwal has looked in decent touch and by far 2019 has been his most productive season in IPL. He has looked composed in the crease and taken on class bowling attacks apart. Mandeep Singh has also looked good as a finisher. He is a floater in the team and bats wherever his team needs him.
Meanwhile, in the bowling department, Mohammed Shami has been the go-to bowler for Ravichandran Ashwin and he has delivered on most occasions. Like Mayank, it has also been the most productive IPL season for Shami. He will look to continue his dominance and pose a threat to the star-studded Royal Challengers batting line-up.

Head to Head:
Matches Played: 23, Kings XI Punjab- 12, Royal Challengers Bangalore- 11
There is certainly doubt about the fact that it will be a high scoring game at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. Traditionally this surface has produced some of the greatest batting wickets especially in the shortest format of the game. However, it was a two-paced track when Royal Challengers Bangalore sneaked past CSK by just a solitary run.
It will be interesting to see what sort of surface RCB management asks the pitch curator to make. Generally, teams batting first in Bangalore are well aware of the fact that no score is enough in this surface. However, after the previous match, it will be interesting to see whether there is any difference in the pitch.
It is very tough to predict the weather in Bengaluru. In the last two three days, the evenings in Bangalore has been pretty cloudy. However no rain is expected for the match day. However with Bengaluru having a tendency of experiencing summer monsoon, we can only hope that rain stays away from the 42nd match of the tournament.
It is expected to be another cool evening in Bengaluru. The temperature might hover around 20 to 25 degrees during the match time.
Royal Challengers Bangalore will be a confident unit after registering two back to back victories. If only they manage to win their remaining 4 matches there will be an outside chance of their qualification in the final 4. There is an old saying that comes at the hour, come at the man.
Players like Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers will take it as a challenge to keep RCB alive. Punjab is better placed than RCB in the tournament but I feel that Bangalore will win today. In fact my prediction is a comprehensive victory for Royal Challengers Bangalore.
