Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) batsman Rahul Tripathi had made some valid points following the five-wicket loss against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Friday night. In the match number eight of the IPL 2019, Royals had a sluggish start, but skipper Ajinkya Rahane alongside Sanju Samson battered hosts bowlers before all vent in vain.
IPL 2019: Early wickets could have set the tone for Royals, feels Tripathi –
Tripathi has heaped praise on Samson, who slammed his second IPL ton.
“I think we had a good total on the board. I think Sanju batted beautifully and Ajinkya too batted well. We thought it was a match-winning score but it was a day when we didn’t have luck on the bowling front. A wicket or two at the start would have been a different story. They got a good start and kept going,” Tripathi told ToI.
The promising batsman Tripathi believes scoring runs in first six overs wouldn’t make any difference. Overall, he believes Royals had batted quite well. He added wickets in hand allow batters to take an attack on the opposition.
Tripathi reiterated they had put a good total on the board.
“I think 198, in the end, was a good total. Whatever you score in the powerplay doesn’t make a difference when you get a competitive score on the board. Having wickets in hand gives you the freedom to play and license to go for the shots. I think we batted beautifully and it’s just that if we had a few early wickets it would have been a great match,” Tripathi said.
The 28-year-old Ranchi-based top-order batsman scored a run against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in their opener on March 25 in Jaipur.
In the second game, he didn’t bat as visitors post 198 for two on the board while riding on a fine hundred from Samsun.
On the other side, Rahane started off quite slow. However, he slammed a 49-ball 70 with the help of four fours and three sixes.
Following the onslaught from David Warner and Jonny Bairstow, they post 110 in 9.4 overs, Tripathi felt a couple of wickets would have helped Royals to tighten the grip early on.
The duo had thrashed Royals’ bowlers to help SRH to win their first game of the season.
While talking about the slow start from Rahane alongside Buttler, Tripathi noted Warner has taken away game from Royals with his pyrotechnics. He added they didn’t target a player like Warner when it comes to relying on the strategy against a solitary player.
IPL 2019: David Warner took the game away from Rajasthan Royals:
Tripathi has hailed Warner for a splendid show with the bat. He smashed 69 off 37 balls. His innings was laced with nine fours and two maximums.
“I think the way he was hitting, there was no plan. He batted beautifully and took the game away from us. There are always plans in bowling meetings about getting batsmen out. But today there were no specific plans for Warner as such. He batted really well and we couldn’t make our plans work,” Tripathi further added.
Meanwhile, Tripathi is ready to bat at any spot for his team. Besides, he has set his goal to win games for his side.
“The batsman said he was ready to play in any position. It is always a challenge as it helps me grow as a player. Winning matches for the team will make me happy,” Tripathi concluded.
After losing both their games in the closely-fought encounter, Royals will play their third game of IPL 2019 on March 31 against Chennai Super Kings (KXIP) at Chepauk.
