IPL 2019: Stephen Fleming Gives Latest Update on MS Dhoni Ahead of Match Against Delhi Capitals
Chennai Super Kings head coach Stephen Fleming gave his opinion on the fitness of CSK skipper MS Dhoni. He stated that the skipper has been pretty sick last week and a call on his participation in the next game against the Delhi Capitals on Wednesday will be taken just before the toss. MS Dhoni has already missed a couple of matches and might miss a few more before the start of the playoffs.
“Dhoni is progressing and he’s been pretty sick during this week. We will make a call on him tomorrow. He is progressing which is good,” Stephen Fleming told reporters ahead of the game against the Delhi Capitals.
“We had a couple of changes forced upon us in the last game, but the performance was not due to the fact that we had made those changes. We are more comfortable going into this game. We have been pretty good, from success-wise, here at Chepauk.
As per reports in the Times of India, MS Dhoni didn’t take part in the training session. He also missed it on Monday. However, Stephen Fleming didn’t agree with the fact that CSK lost the match against the Mumbai Indians owing to the forced couple of changes. It was the 2nd match MS Dhoni missed in the tournament.
“Sometimes, just getting jolted out of the rhythm can be a good thing. Coming down the business end of the tournament, there is a lot on the line each game, so we are well aware of getting the selections right. We want to be as consistent as possible. And I don’t see that changing,” added Stephen Fleming.
There is certainly no doubt about the fact that MS Dhoni has been the standout player for Chennai Super Kings in the tournament so far. He has done the bulk of the scoring for CSK and he has been the most consistent batsman in the team. The CSK skipper almost finished of the game against Royal Challengers Bangalore with a sensational knock of 84 of 48 deliveries. However, he failed to take a single in the final delivery which handed RCB a one-run victory.
MS Dhoni will be one of the most important players for India in the 2019 World Cup which is slated to be played in England and Wales from 30th May. Hence he needs to manage his workload, especially in the IPL. If he doesn’t recover for the playoffs, he should be rested and shouldn’t be rushed in. Dhoni understands his game the best and he will take the call.
