One season after another, Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) woeful run continues to haunt its fans too, in the IPL 2019. The three-time finalists led by Virat Kohli has major loopholes to plug in. Also, there are a couple of overseas players who could face an axe in the 13th edition of the IPL 2020.
RCB had a poor start when they lost the IPL 2019 opener against reigning champions Chennai Super Kings.
It’s pertinent to mention that Kohli and AB de Villiers have done exceedingly well. The duo has scored 906 runs between them in 27 innings.
On the other side, Yuzvendra Chahal has played a significant role with the ball. He has bagged 18 wickets in 14 league matches which further saw his economy of 7.82.
The leg-spinner’s bowling average read as 23.18 for this season.
Overall, the star-studded side has lacked in consistency which further saw their bowling department been quite often at the receiving end.
However, most of the players have struggled to perform their role judiciously. In between, amongst overseas players, many had faced to settle things down for the Bengaluru-based franchise.
Here’s the list of RCB’s three overseas players who might face axe for the IPL 2020:
Shimron Hetmyer:
Windies youngster Shimron Hetmyer has looked bleak with the bat. In five innings, Hetmyer has managed to score 90 at an average of 18.
Hetmyer has managed to score at the strike-rate of 123.29, but he has more often failed to bring stability in the middle-order.
The only highlight of his innings came in the final group game of the RCB when he struck 75 against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on May 4.
Overall, in his first four innings, Hetmyer couldn’t go past the double-digit mark which further saw him getting dismissed on a nought in the curtain raiser against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on March 23.
On these lines, Hetymer could face the exit from the RCB squad for the IPL 2019.
Colin de Grandhomme:
New Zealand all-rounder Colin de Grandhomme has utterly failed with the bat. He has managed to collect just 46 runs off four innings.
Since 2017, Grandhomme hasn’t been able to do much which saw him bagging just six wickets in 25 matches. He has overall conceded 319 runs off 216 deliveries.
In the ongoing season, Grandhomme has gone wicketless after giving away 55 runs in his five overs.
Besides, he has scored the highest score of 37 for this season. Interestingly, he has managed to slam four fours and two sixes in IPL 2019.
So, he is highly-likely going to be released by the RCB management.
Tim Southee:
New Zealand pacer Tim Southee has looked rusty with the ball in hand. His bowling average reads 118 for the IPL 2019.
The RCB pacer has conceded 118 runs in his nine overs while representing the Bengaluru-based franchise in three matches.
Thus, it is a clear indication that RCB might not look at at the right-arm medium pacer for the next edition of the domestic professional Twenty20 league.
