IPL 2019: We Were Outplayed in Every Department of the Game – Ravichandran Ashwin
Sunrisers Hyderabad decimated Kings XI Punjab by a big margin of 45 runs. Kings XI Punjab skipper Ravichandran Ashwin said that they were outplayed in all the three aspects of the game. Sunrisers Hyderabad had posted a huge score of 212 runs after David Warner scored a fine knock of 81 runs off just 53 balls.
Warner gave another solid start to his team as he added a brilliant partnership of 78 runs for the opening stand with Wriddhiman Saha. Furthermore, Kane Williamson and Mohammed Nabi added the finishing touches to the innings.
On the other hand, KL Rahul top-scored for the visitors with a knock of 79 runs. However, he was a bit slow in changing gears. In fact, the right-hander could not get support from the other end as no other Kings XI Punjab batsman could cross 27 runs.
Ravichandran Ashwin said while talking to host broadcaster in the post-match presentation “It’s not right to think about the past. It was one of the days we were outplayed in every department. I thought 195-200 was about par. We started poorly in the powerplay and pulled it back in the end. If you see throughout, we have struggled to chase down totals in excess of 190. It is pretty straightforward, you have to keep winning at this stage of the IPL. There is a lot of young energy in the team. We will not go away that easily in the tournament, we will keep sticking our necks out”.
On the other hand, Sunrisers Hyderabad bowlers were right on the money. Khaleel Ahmed and Rashid Khan scalped three wickets each to halt Punjab’s innings to 167-8, thus they lost by 45 runs. Furthermore, Sandeep Sharma took two wickets.
Meanwhile, David Warner was once again at his best in his swansong of IPL 2019. Warner scored a fine knock laden with seven fours and two maximums. The southpaw opener amassed 692 runs in the season. Warner scored his 44th IPL fifty and his eight successive fifty against KXIP.
Kings XI Punjab will take on Kolkata Knight Riders at their home ground on May 3.
