The IPL 2020 is doubtful due to the coronavirus pandemic. And, there is no assurance about the possibility of this tournament. Recently, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has shown its keen interest to organise the Indian Premier League (IPL). However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has clarified that they can think about this tournament only when the situation will be better.

The IPL 2020 was initially scheduled to run from 29th March to 24th May 2020. While the teams were eyeing to begin their practice session to prepare for the new season, coronavirus has forced to postpone this tournament indefinitely.

The UAE has offered to host the IPL 2020: BCCI treasurer

Though the BCCI is still hopeful about the IPL 2020, they are not interested in talking about this in the present crisis. Recently, the UAE has shown its keen interest to organise the IPL 2020. However, the BCCI treasurer Arun Dhumal has clarified that they are currently not in the position to talk about this due to the present ban of international travel.

Dhumal claimed according to Hindustan Times, “The UAE has offered to host the IPL if we want them to. But right now when there is no international travel, there is no question of taking a call on that.”

Dhumal has also clarified that the health and security of everyone is their priority at the present moment. They are currently not in the position to decide anything about the IPL 2020.

He added, “The health and security of players and all participants is our priority. At the moment, the entire world travel has come to a standstill, so there is nothing we can decide at this stage.”

UAE earlier hosted the first half of the IPL 2014 due to the Indian general election. Meanwhile, due to the same reason, South Africa hosted the entire IPL 2009.
