After registering a magnificent win against Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals will take on Kings XI Punjab on Tuesday (October 20) in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020.
Delhi Capitals are topping the points table not only because of the effort of one or two constant players but their whole team effort has been terrific. In nine matches, they have registered victory in seven matches and have gained 14 points.
Because of Rishabh Pant being injured, their team combination has been disturbed, but yet they have managed not to lose their top spot. The wicketkeeper-batsman might return in the XI against KXIP as it has been a week since he has been out of the team.
Let’s take a look at how Delhi Capitals’ playing XI might shape in against KXIP:
1. Prithvi Shaw:
20-year-old batsman, Prithivi Shaw has been out for a duck in the last two matches. Somewhere, the team has been affected because of the early loss of his wicket although Shikhar Dhawan and Shreyas Iyer’s partnership have overshadowed it. Delhi Capitals will accept him to save his wicket and play a big knock to give a good base to them.
2. Shikhar Dhawan:
After underperforming at the start of the tournament, Shikhar Dhawan has found the rhythm back in the last two matches. Against CSK, the southpaw registered maiden T20 century in his 13-year-old professional career. His sensational performance guided Delhi Capitals to seal the win against the Yellow Army. The franchise will want him to continue to deliver similar performance as his opening partner Prithvi Shaw is struggling.
3. Shreyas Iyer:
Delhi Capitals captain Shreyas Iyer is the ever-reliable batsman for them. After the slump of early wickets, he has set up a match-winning partnership to leave the team in a good position. Apart from his batting prowess, the youngster has also been praised for his captaincy as he looks to take the team to their maiden IPL title.
4. Rishabh Pant:
Rishabh Pant is likely to join the team for the clash against CSK. The wicketkeeper-batsman missed a couple of matches because he sustained a minor injury during the match against Rajasthan Royals. In his absence, the team struggled in the middle-order. With his return, Delhi Capitals will look more stronger.
5. Marcus Stoinis:
Marcus Stoinis is a vital cog for Delhi Capitals both with bat and ball. He is the big hitter while had also got the knack of picking wickets in a crunch situation. His bowling against Kings XI Punjab is unforgettable which had led the game to super over. In the last seven matches, the Australian allrounder has scored 217 runs at the strike rate of 163.15 and has also picked six wickets. He is undoubtedly going to play all the matches for DC this season.
6. Shimron Hetmyer:
Shimron Hetmyer will be back in action against KXIP. He had to sit out of the playing XI to maintain the number of overseas players after Alex Carey had replaced Rishabh Pant for the wicketkeeper-batsman position. The Windies is the power-hitter and will accelerate the innings for Delhi Capitals.
7. Axar Patel:
Axar Patel, the lanky allrounder, has given valuable contributions. He has picked seven wickets in eight matches at the staggering economy rate of 5.59. Apart from bowling, his power-hitting has been very impactful. He is a pivotal player for Delhi Capitals.
8. Tushar Deshpande:
Tushar Deshpande played the first match for Delhi Capitals against Rajasthan Royals. He snared two wickets, including the key wicket of Ben Stokes, in his four-over spell. Although his first two overs proved costly, he bowled an economical last over to guide the team to 13 runs victory. Against CSK, he picked the early wicket of Sam Curran. He is surely going to play against KXIP.
9. Ravichandran Ashwin:
Ravichandran Ashwin, the lone spinner, in the team has been extraordinary this season. Against RR in their first meeting, he picked the crucial wicket of Jos Buttler and Mahipal Lomror while gave away 22 runs in his four-over. If he produces the same masterpiece again, Delhi Capitals are surely going to have the upper hand in the game.
10. Kagiso Rabada:
Kagiso Rabada is the game changer and match-winner for Delhi Capitals. His only presence in the bowling attack makes them stronger. The fast bowler has picked up 19 wickets, including one four-wicket haul, in nine matches at the economy rate of 7.68.
11. Anrich Nortje:
Against RR, Anrich Nortje created history in IPL after bowling the fastest delivery of the tournament to Jos Buttler. He bowled at the speed of 156.2 Kmph. The speedster has become a vital cog and an indispensable part of the Delhi Capitals. Overall, he has snared 12 wickets in eight matches at the economy rate of 7.75.
