After winning the toss, Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli decided to bat first. While RCB managed to score 169/4 (20 overs) in the first innings, they restricted CSK to 132/8 (20 overs).

Both the CSK openers Shane Watson (14) and Faf du Plessis (8) lost their wickets cheaply. Then Ambati Rayudu and Narayan Jagadeesan handled the situation. However, their partnership couldn’t manage to score in a fast way.
Ambati Rayudu and Narayan Jagadeesan set up the 64 runs partnership for the third wicket. In the 15th over, Jagadeesan was run out after scoring 33 runs off 28 balls. After that wicket, RCB were totally in control in the game as they quickly took some of the next crucial wickets.
Captain MS Dhoni hit a sixer on facing his third ball in the match as he completed his 300th T20 sixer with that over-boundary. But on the final ball of the 16th over, Dhoni was caught out at the long-off as Yuzvendra Chahal picked that crucial wicket.
On the second ball of the next over, Sam Curran was dismissed for a golden duck as Chris Morris took that wicket. After scoring 42 runs off 40 balls (4 fours), Rayudu was bowled by Isuru Udana. In the 19th over, Morris took two more wickets after dismissing Dwayne Bravo (7) and Ravindra Jadeja (7).

RCB opener Aaron Finch (2) lost his wicket cheaply as Deepak Chahar bowled him in the third over. But the other opener Devdutt Padikkal and skipper Virat Kohli handled that early situation very well with the 53 runs partnership for the second wicket.
In the 11th over, Padikkal (33 runs) was dismissed by Shardul Thakur. In that same over, AB de Villiers (0) was caught behind for a duck. Then, Washington Sundar also scored 10 runs before Sam Curran dismiss him.
However, captain Kohli remained stick in the crease till the end of that innings which helped them to secure a challenging total. Kohli completed his half-century in 39 balls. At the end moment of that innings, the set batsman Kohli became the crucial factor for his team to add runs quickly.
Kohli remained not out on 90 runs off 52 balls (4 fours and 4 sixes). Also, Shivam Dube played a crucial cameo as he scored 22 not out off 14 balls (2 fours and only six). For the unbroken fifth wicket, Kohli and Dube put the 76 runs partnership.
