Mumbai Indians (MI) innings

Mumbai Indians openers Quinton de Kock and Ishan Kishan both lost their wickets after getting settled down. In the last over of the powerplay, Mohammed Siraj dismissed De Kock for 18 runs. Yuzvendra Chahal then dismissed Kishan for 25 runs in the eighth over.

Though the next batsmen were also struggling against the RCB bowlers, in-form Suryakumar Yadav always put the defending champions in the game with his strong batting performance. Yadav’s impressive batting massively helped the reigning champions to win the match.

RCB bowlers Mohammed Siraj (2/28) and Yuzvendra Chahal (2/37) bagged two wickets each and Chris Morris (1/36) got one wicket but those were not enough for the side to defend the total.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) innings

Openers Josh Philippe and Devdutt Padikkal provided a good start as they set up the 71 runs partnership inside the eight overs. But once the leg-spinner Rahul Chahar broke that opening partnership as Philippe was stumped out for 33 runs off 24 balls (4 fours and only six), the next RCB batsmen struggled. Apart from the openers, none of their other batsmen managed to reach the 20-run mark in that innings.

While Jasprit Bumrah completed his 200 T20 wickets as well as 100 IPL wickets after dismissing RCB captain Virat Kohli (9), AB de Villiers (15) also lost his wicket cheaply as stand-in skipper Kieron Pollard took that wicket.

While the other batsmen were struggling in that innings, Padikkal fought very hard to guide the team to the challenging first innings total. The RCB opener completed his fifty in 30 balls. After scoring 74 runs off 45 balls (12 fours and only six), Padikkal was dismissed by Bumrah in the 17th over. In the end, Gurkeerat Singh and Washington Sundar remained not out on 14 and 10 runs respectively.
