IPL 2020 has been postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak and there is no assurance about the fate of this tournament. However, the Director of cricket operations of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Mike Hesson is still hopeful to experience the IPL 2020.
The 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) or IPL 2020 was originally scheduled to run between 29th March and 24th May 2020. But the novel COVID-19 or coronavirus has forced to postpone this tournament. Though the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is still hopeful for this tournament, the pandemic is still dominating the world which continues the doubtful future of this tournament.
Some believe that if the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020 gets cancelled, which Australia will organise between 18th October to 15th November 2020, the IPL 2020 can be organised in this window.
Mike Hesson is also hopeful about the IPL 2020. While it will be his first season for RCB (as the Director of cricket operations), Hesson is confident about his new team.
Hesson recently said on Star Sports show ‘Cricket Connected’, “We’re still really hopeful that things will evolve and there will be an IPL this year and if it happens, then I can assure you that RCB will be ready.”
There are obviously other priorities at the moment that people are focussing: Mike Hesson
While they were focusing to begin the camp session ahead of the beginning of IPL 2020, the pandemic destroyed every plan by forcing to postpone this tournament. He is supporting the present stoppage taking in mind the latest bigger issues.
Hesson added, “We were obviously a week away from coming into camp, like everybody else, feeling well advanced in terms of our planning.
“Quite rightfully, everything has been put on hold and everybody is going about their work. There are obviously other priorities at the moment that people are focussing on.”
Even after the postponement of the IPL 2020, Mike Hesson was stranded in India for around one month due to the lockdown. In late April, the former New Zealand Head Coach finally reached his country.
In the IPL 2019, Hesson was the Head Coach of the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) who finished in the sixth position.
