In Sharjah, the Royals are entering the clash with the advantage as they are already acquainted with the conditions. They had won their opening match of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 against CSK there but KXIP will play the first match in Sharjah.
Rajasthan Royals had also amazed by their playing XI in the last match as their captain Steve Smith for the first time opened the innings for them. As they are set to play the next match against KXIP, let’s take a look at what their combination will look like.
RR predicted XI against KXIP:
1. Yashasvi Jaiswal :
Yashasvi Jaiswal is a young talent and was the highest scorer for India U-19 team in the World Campaign this year. He has the potential and RR would back the young talent although, in his IPL debut match against CSK, he was out after scoring six runs in six balls, including one boundary.
2. Jos Buttler
Jos Buttler joined RR’s training camp on Friday after completing the quarantine period. The England batsman had shown his skill at the opening position in the last bilateral series against Australia. So, after his return, Steve Smith might be pushed back in the middle order and he will be given the opener’s role.
3. Sanju Samson
In the match against CSK, Sanju Samson was ruthless and demolished their bowling attack. He struck seven sixes and one boundary in his gusty knock of 74 runs off 32 balls. The youngster is in terrific form and will be an integral part of the team in this tournament. So, his position in the playing XI is unquestionable.
4. Steve Smith
RR captain Steve Smith fulfilled the role of the opener against CSK as he scored 69 off 47 balls. He will be back to his regular position at no. 4 after Jos Buttler’s return in the team.
5. Robin Uthappa
Robin Uthappa, who was bought in the IPL 2020 auction ahead of this season, could not deliver his best in the Royals’ first match. But he is a reliable batsman and known to build innings. The Indian cricketer will surely play a major role in the franchise in the middle order.
6. Riyan Parag
One of the finds of the 2019 IPL season, Assam’s Riyan Parag possesses enough cricketing brain to mix his game with running between the wickets and boundaries in equal measure. Although he could not score runs in the first game, he is still to show his strength from the bat. Also, he is useful with his part-time spin bowling and that gives an option to Steve Smith’s bowling plans.
7. Tom Curran
As Ben Stokes is not available, Tom Curran can fulfil the duty of the allrounder. He had picked the crucial wicket of Kedar Jadhav and also scored 10* runs against CSK. The fast bowling allrounder is likely to be in the XI for the clash against KXIP.
8. Rahul Tewatia:
The spinner Rahul Tewatia didn’t get many opportunities last season while playing for Delhi Capitals. But with his impressive performance against CSK, he is likely to get a place in the playing XI against KXIP. In his four-over quota, he picked up three crucial wickets of Shane Watson, Sam Curran, Rituraj Gaikwad to send their batting line up early. He will be an interesting player to look out this season.
9. Shreyas Gopal:
The leg spinner Shreyas Gopal is a vital cog for RR in the UAE pitches as the condition favours him. Although he was not the economical bowler in the last match, his googly are hard to pick. Also, batting can be very useful lower down the order as he has a solid technique that can come in handy during a crisis.
10. Jofra Archer
Jofra Archer is the spearhead of RR’s bowling attack. He is a threat to the opposition as his lethal bouncer and yorker apart from his usual hard lengths are his bowling weapon. The England cricketer is an indispensable part of the team.
11. Jaydev Unadkat
Even though Unadkat hasn’t been able to justify his huge price tags in the last two seasons, RR placed their faith on the experienced campaigner for the third season running. He had an amazing domestic season for Saurashtra keeping this mind, he will be a crucial bowler for RR.
