After Rajasthan Royals lost the match against Kolkata Knight Riders, Robin Uthappa surpassed Virat Kohli’s record of being part of most number of defeats in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Robin Uthappa is, currently, playing the first season for Rajasthan Royals in the UAE. In last season, he played for Kolkata Knight Riders but the franchise released him ahead of the IPL 2020 acution. Seeing Royals’ middle-order problem, the franchise roped him but as of now, the veteran has failed to delievered the expected performance.
In last three matches, he has scored only 16 runs, nine being his highest score. Although the tournament has only started, Rajasthan Royals would expect him to play mature innings in the coming matches.
Robin Uthappa surspassed Virat Kohli in unwanted record:
Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli has been the part of 90 defeats while Robin Uthappa has now witnessed 91 defeats after his side lost the match against KKR by 37 runs.
Meanwhile, KKR captain Dinesh Karthik has faced 87 losses and is positioned at third spot on the list of players who have been a part of most number of defeats. He is followed by Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma, who has been on the losing side 85 times.
Uthappa found using saliva:
Robin Uthappa was captured using saliva, which is banned, on the ball during the match against KKR. However, he had accidently applied it. The ICC has strictly banned the usage of saliva to shine the ball because the natural substance is now one of the carriers of the COVID-19.
As per the guidelines, a team will get up to two warnings per innings for this violation, but repeated use of saliva will lead to a five-run penalty to the batting side. Apart from this, in case the saliva has been applied, umpires will be required to clean the ball before the game resumes.
