Irfan Pathan Supports Postponement Or Cancellation Of Sporting Events Amid Global Crisis
Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan supports the postponement or cancellation of all the sporting events in the present crisis moment due to the COVID-19 or coronavirus outbreak.
Coronavirus is now dominating the world, as many countries are fighting against it. While more than 700,000 people have been affected in coronavirus cases, more than 30,000 people have lost their lives. In India, over 1,000 coronavirus cases have been reported, including more than 25 deaths.
While most of the countries are still failing to stop the growing numbers of coronavirus cases as the rate is increasing daily, many countries are facing the complete lockdown process to beat this virus. India has also followed the same rules as the country is now going through the complete lockdown process.
Before the lockdown process, many global events have been postponed or cancelled, including sporting events. Cricket is also facing the same issue. Apart from the international cricket events, the IPL 2020 has also been postponed. Also, many other future cricket events of this year are doubtful due to the present non-controlling situations in many countries.
Irfan Pathan and many other legendary cricketers were recently busy in the inaugural Road Safety World Series. But in the wake of coronavirus cases, the Road Safety World Series 2020 was postponed from the middle of that tournament. Pathan supports this kind of decision in the present crisis moment in the countries.
You cannot do anything because you need to save lives: Irfan Pathan
Talking about the future of ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020, Pathan feels that the ICC and other cricket boards need to regularly monitor the situation in Australia before taking up the final decision on the tournament. Australia will host the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020 from 18th October to 15th November 2020.
Pathan recently said in an interview with The New Indian Express, “It is very important that all governments take proper measures. Sporting activities should obviously be postponed. Nothing is bigger than life. Like the postponement of IPL, everyone should consider the situation every month. Be it ICC or any national board, all organisations need to see the situation in Australia (for the T20 World Cup) every three, four weeks and then take a decision.”
Pathan added, “If something has to be deferred or cancelled, so be it. You cannot do anything because you need to save lives, which should be the most important thing on everybody’s mind at the moment.”
The future of the IPL 2020 is currently under the dark cloud as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has no clue how to organise this tournament in this tough period. However, the board is still waiting for the next decision by the Indian government.
