Kagiso Rabada Ruled Out Of ODI Series Against Australia And India
While the South African team will travel soon in India for the ODI series, they have got a massive blow as the 24-year-old right-arm fast bowler Kagiso Rabada has been ruled out from this tour.
South African team is currently preparing for the three-match home ODI series against Australia, starting on Saturday (29th February). But before this ODI series, Kagiso Rabada has been ruled out from the squad due to suffering the groin muscle strain.
Rabada suffered that injury during the last T20I match against Australia at Cape Town on last Wednesday (26th February). The Cricket South Africa (CSA) has confirmed that it will take around four weeks to recover from this injury. So, Rabada will miss the home ODI series against Australia as well as the away ODI series against the hosts India which will run between 12th and 18th March.
CSA’s chief medical officer Dr Shuaib Manjra claimed, “Kagiso sustained a groin muscle strain in the T20 series against Australia. He was assessed by the medical staff, assisted by an MRI scan.
“The significant injury means that he will take approximately four weeks to heal, which effectively rules him out of both the Australia and India ODI series. The CSA medical staff will ensure his effective and expeditious recovery.”
There is no doubt that South Africa will miss Kagiso Rabada in the back-to-back ODI series, and that too against the stronger sides. Rabada is the best-ranked South African pacer in every format. At present, the right-arm pacer is in the fourth position in the ODI bowling rankings. He has taken 117 wickets in 75 ODIs.
Kagiso Rabada will serve for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2020
IPL 2020 will begin on 29th March. Kagiso Rabada’s IPL side, Delhi Capitals (DC) will start their journey in the new IPL season on 30th March with the home match against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP). Though it is enough time for Rabada to recover from the injury, his presence in the IPL 2020 will depend on further assessment of his fitness.
In the last IPL season, Kagiso Rabada just missed out the Purple Cap due to finishing that tournament as the second most wicket-taker with 25 wickets (IPL 2019 Purple Cap winner Imran Tahir from Chennai Super Kings bagged 26 wickets).
