Former India opener, Gautam Gambhir has named suspended India opener, KL Rahul and overlooked off-spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin in his 15-man squad for the 2019 World Cup. While doing the commentary during the Napier ODI between New Zealand and India, Gambhir listed out his 15-man team for the mega event in England and Wales. Though the World Cup is a few months away, the India National Cricket Team is still figuring out their best players, and the XI for the tournament.
No significant changes in Gambhir’s squad
The ex-opening batsman named the star duo of Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan to start with. He then put KL Rahul’s name on the list as the third opening batter in the team. Though KL’s off-field conduct has kept him on the sidelines, Gambhir thinks Rahul will get clear to play for India soon.
Also, Gautam has mentioned Hardik Pandya‘s name on the list too. With the growing concern over the tenure of Hardik’s suspension, no one is clear as of when the star all-rounder would get to play again. Likewise in Rahul’s case, the retired India opener thinks Hardik will get the green signal to play for India.
Shifting the focus towards the bowlers, there has been one surprise on the teamsheet. Ravichandran Ashwin is the name which got everyone talking. The India National Cricket Team bowler hasn’t played One-Day in 15 months now. He last represented India during the Windies ODIs post the Champions Trophy in 2017. Since then he is out of the ODI setup but remains a crucial part of the Test team.
Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar to lead India’s bowling
Gautam Gambhir, who had led India in six ODIs in the past has gone with the expected bowling attack. The fast bowling department will have Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami. While Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal will be the other two spinners apart from Ashwin.
